Datapro: My illusions evoporate within 5 minutes!

In my innocent ignorance I decided to move over to Datapro because they charge R228/3GB and then pro-rata @ R85.50/GB after that, not too bad compared to the current trend. So, you pay exactly for what you use, which none of the other ISPs are able to offer afaik. They also have a nice "soft cap" system which you can regulate yourself from their website.

One phone call later, here are the facts that sunk the boat:
  1. R250 setup fee (I presume ex VAT)
  2. 1 Year contract

I rest my case :mad:

I refuse to go with anything contract based. I will not go with an ISP if they don't have a month-to-month option, and I will not go with them if they do not accept EFT as payment.

Who the feck charges a setup fee?? That's nuts, why not try one of the other ISPs, like webafrica, saol or axxess?
 
DearHeart, Web Africa offers 3GB for R199 and then R75 per G/B topups after that. And the good thing about the R75 topups is that at the end of the month you don't lose what you haven't used, it carries over to the next month. Also, there is no setup fee and you can cancel whenever you like. Check them out.

Thanks VQuest, I did check them out and made a big noise about the shopping cart that wasn't updated. Now the cart reflects the 1 Nov pricing, but I'll wait until they have the top-ups in the cart as well :) BTW, I understand that the top-ups don't mix with the reqular R199 product?

Of course they should be allowed, karnaugh simply explained why datapro possibly do this.
 
The reason why certain IT/ISP companies charge setup fees is because, when they create an account on the system, it places alot of wear and tear on their nails. Thus, they need reserve funds in the case of a breakage....

Ok, sorry, im just babbling on again...lol...I will go and sit in a corner now ;)

VQuest, do they carry over partially used gigs or just fully unused gigs? Eg, if I only use 100 meg of a top-up gig, next month will I still have the remaining 900 megs.
 
OK MrBEEP, since you are hanging around here :) , can you maybe answer a few questions? I know this has been discussed endlesly but I'm still not convinced. I do web design and apps and really depend on international speed because some of my webservers are in the US. I am concerned about the speed of the IS international connections, which seems to be a problem as seen on the forum. If I switch to Openweb and the international is slow, I'm going to cause myself a lot of frustration :confused:

If this has been discussed elsewhere, please point me to the thread.
