Surely Telskum are aware that many InfinitCall customers (semi-?) regularly experience disconnects :mad: while on the line. If Telskum really wanted to give value for money, I propose they accomodate this by allowing one to redial (to the same number) within 1 or 2 minutes of a call ending.
Perhaps this proposal can be presented to the Telskum rep?

Had the problem yesterday evening while using ABSA dail-up account. Switched to the other account at MWeb, and no more problem! :D So, it's not just teklom, but the technical infrastructure at the dail-up providers that can cause the break as well.
Funny though, when I was on dialup I got disconnected only 3 times within the space of 1 year.

Same here, i hardly ever got disconnected on infiit call...

i didnt have a problem till recently... maybe i will try another tel number from Mweb and see how it performs... it only drops when i am busy downloading stuff at night, not during gaming session thankfully...

From what i understand, when telkom started to lay lines as fast as they could they started to put more lines on one card in the exchange than there should have been. This caused static and would cause disconnets to dialup modems. So if this is u, u can call Telkom and demand a clean, "free" card. And by law they had to give u one. They just never advertised it. I had it done some years ago. Donno if this would help.

I called Mweb and they suggested i reload my ISDN modem drivers and check idle disconnect settings... sigh... but nothing has changed in my system for a while now... if all else fails i will have to give Telkom a tinkle and ask them to check the line out...
Paying R7 for every reconnect is going to get expensive...

its more than R7 now when i had ISDN last (2 months ago) it was R7,97. donno what it is now.
From the front page of Hellkom:
If you have InfinitCall (Previously R7 call) on your dialup line you should take a look at your bill. The subscription has gone up to R62/month inc. VAT and the per-call cost has gone up to R9.85 inc. VAT. So if you connect each night Mon-Fri your total cost including line rental, InfinitCall rental and InfinitCall charges will be a minimum of R350 per month, excluding ISP cost......

since when? my last bill was just under R650 and with 2 lines... i had been a good boy and avoided unnecessary pre-7pm connections...
R92 - phone line rental
R62 - infinitcall rental
R9.85 - infinitcall call cap charge
5 - number of days in an infinitcall week
4 - number of weeks in a month
R92 + R62 + (R9.85 * 5 * 4) = R351
