Anybody got any idea how i can hook two DSTV decoders into one dish without spending a fortune ? or getting nobbed ?

The only way i know is getting a twin LNB installed on your dish. Then you run another cable to the second decoder. Done at my place. Have you considered Dual View?

Why not just split the cable, assuming both decoders has a separate smart card ?

some decoders have a passthru for the dish cable. those can be daisy chained one after the other. You spot them the the dual dish plugs on the back of the decoder. Try and find one of those. If you already have 2 decoders, then you'll need a dual lnb to hook both decoders to the same dish.

I know that if you use a single LNB for a dual view decoder, the second decoder can only access a particular group of channels, depending on what the primary decoder is accessing. I wonder if this applies to daisy chaining decoders off a single LNB as well?

You can run 2 decoders off a single LNB, but you wont be able to watch Vertical and Horizontal at the same time.

In conclusion, your options are:
1. Two LNB's on the same dish (1 for each decoder) and both decoders will then be able to access any channel at any time.

or

2. Share a single LNB between the two decoders but as whoiswarren pointed out your secondary decoder is limited to certain channels depending on which channel is being watched on your primary decoder
