This is my understanding of the difference between SAIX and IS, if im wrong on some details please let me know. This thread is just to clear up my own confusion and maybe help a few others with theirs :D

INTERNET SOLUTIONS BACKBONE
========================

The Good:
---------
* No hard capping. You get 30 gigs of local bandwidth
after you are capped. and some ISP's offer at least 56 k speeds with international bandwidth after you are capped.

* Unshaped. As far as I know, all IS accounts are unshaped, which means you will have better download speeds with things
like steam, P2P programs, and torrents.

The Bad:
--------
* Bad Pings. because IS connects via satelite, U get EXTEMELY bad international pings, which means for online gaming, all international servers are completely unplayable. and if thats not bad enough, You get very high pings on local servers during business hours. so the only time games are playable online are after 5 on weekdays and weekends.

* Expensive accounts. Becuase IS accounts are unshaped, and have no immidiate hardcap, they are more expensive.

SAIX BACKBONE
============

The Good:
--------
* Good Pings. you get decent, playable international pings. and very good local pings all the time.

* Cheap accounts. Becuase SAIX accounts are shaped, and have a hardcap, they are relatively cheaper.

The Bad:
---------
* Hard capping. Your entire access to the internet is cut off when you reach your cap.

* Shaped. As far as I know, SAIX accounts are shaped, which means you will have very bad download speeds with things
like steam, P2P programs, and torrents. There are unshaped packages but they cost much more.

Sounds about right...

More things to consider:
1) Concurrent connections
2) Contention ratios
3) Dynamic/Static IP
4) Service Levels (SLAs non-existant at the moment)
5) Mail-relay service (no smtp mail relay with IS uncapped business offering)
6) Mail services (eg mailboxes, spam filter, virus filter, etc...)
7) Difference between home and business offering

One important thing to me:

Saix have had numerous years of showing their true colours to us. IS havnt, so lets give them a try, if they fail, we give the next one a try.

If we split the support for IS, to much in SAIX favour, The Devil aka Telkom, will just remain and naturally IS would not see any point in offering this service.
