Sony blu-ray player and avi files

My brother has a sony blu-ray player and wants to watch avi files on it, either via usb or a dvd. I did a search and it doesn't look like it is able to, but some people said the Canadian players can, due to copyright infringement laws in America... Don't know if this is true...
Anyone here that can shed some light?

does your player have a divx logo on it if yes it can play.
not sure about canadian and usa players has to do with the wheter it can play avi or not,
check you manaul or whats your model number i can check if it can play avi files,

It is a Sony blu-ray BDP-S360.
