Which one of these PSUs?

Go for the first one on the basis that it is modular.

The second one is more efficient, but it has like half of the other one's PEG (PCI-Express Graphics card) connectors!

Any particular reason why you want to go for those big and expensive power supplies?

You don't need anything more than a decent 650W PSU for a Core i7 + GTX 580.

My friend has the 850w one, and I have to say it's a sexy piece of kit IRL - the individual sleeved cables look unbelievable. I'm not sure about the other one, and really I'm not basing my judgement on anything but superficial appearances, so take it with a pinch of salt please ;)

They both have 6. The Gold has 3 x 6 pin that the summary doesn't list.

Personally, given the choice, I would take a Corsair HX850, but that might stretch the budget a little. So, I would go for the Silent Power Pro M 850, since it actually has better components than the higher efficiency rated Gold version.

Also, since PSUs are usually rated at 110vac and we have 220vac, which is far better (PSUs run around 5% more efficiently on 220vac, iirc), the 2% difference between the two (86 vs 88) becomes pretty negligible.
