WTF DSTV? How about we all get PVR's and then...

Hi guys,

DSTV have now been rerunning the same programmes on just about every channel for the last 6 months. I actually showed my wife something I recorded on the PVR almost a year ago and they are showing these episodes today still on Discovery :confused:

I honestly think one can get a PVR, record everything you find interresting and then cancel your subscription for a few months. When the programmes on your PVR has all been viewed, subscribe again for a month record everythin you didn't watch yet and cancel it again.

I actually fell off the chair today seeing that they are STILL SHOWING "Looks who's talking 1, 2 & 3" I mean it's been running none stop for 3 months already. Discovery had The Ninja episode again where this dude catches arrows... I HAVE ON ON PVR AND IT'S A YEAR OLD ALMOST ...

Seriously is there something we can do? Can we take Multichoice to some sort of governing body? Why would I keep paying to see the same shyt over and over? How do they justify me paying an amount over and over for the same content?
 
Small flaw in your plan. If you stop your dstv subscription your pvr recordings are inaccessible.

Your logic is flawed. Where did you get the idea that if you subscribe a few months later that you will get new content? :D

Hehe, yea, DSTV and their repeats are pathetic, and it is not as if there is not enough content out there for them to fill a schedule, they just don't buy enough content, yet they charge a huge premium for it. Jokers.

So downgrade to the cheapest package. I have TopTV though and it's great.

@Pitbull... How about investing in a decent dvd recorder with plenty of hdd? Might be a sizeable outlay initially, but in the long run if you plan to switch off DSTV every second month, it will be paid off in a year or so.
 
I honestly hate the way they repeat shows and buy old shows. This "Brand New Season starting ... " BS is a joke. Those Brand new seasons are mostly from 2008-09. Really? That's brand new? Should tell buyers to my car that. Its brand new! 2008!

Wrong- signal is encrypted so you can't record it. My DVD recorder is pretty much just a DVD player now. My PC can still record though- perhaps because my TV card is nearly 10 years old.
 
The Frasier repeats really get me as well - S1, S2 then S1, S2, then S1, S2.

I asked on the forum - their reply "it should be coming soon but we can't give a date on season 3"
 
I also tried the "internet" thing with mweb uncapped, I was paying +-R500 p/m.

But fighting with disconnects and slow speeds just sucks, it's a lot easier to flick through channels and you get sport.
Downloading shows is way more expensive than any dstv package.
So until internet drops in price we are all stuck............

I have a 8mb uncapped connection at work - wish I had this at home, I would go bossies :) and tell dstv to suck my lollie!
 
R600 a month for repeats. For that price, you can buy 2 seasons of a typical series, to keep forever. Every month. :)
In fact, for 1 and a half month of DSTV sacrilege, you can buy season 1-4 of Heroes. 23 DVD's...

Then visit friends, bearing gifts of biltong, whenever worthy sport is being aired.

I cancelled my subscription for one month late last year, when I reconnected, all my recordings were still available.

I don't mind cancelling for 2 months but we must all work together and get the message across clearly. Someone make a facebook group ?

I cancelled my R600 pm account in October. Can't say I've missed it at all. More than enough pubs show sport and all my mates have DStv. Sport was the only thing I required and for R600pm it was excessive.

Any TV/Movies I do watch are downloaded and I GET TO WATCH WHAT I WANT WHEN I WANT :cool:

Is that applicable to only the HD channels? I have a DVD recorder and I've yet to experience any problems recording on it?
