Downloading 800gig per month with telkom adsl

I dont know if any1 else saw this but there is an article in the Gauteng Business on how the new per gig billing will affect sme's and also some TARD from telkom his name is victor strydom "There are individuals who misuse the system and download more than 800gig a month " Is that even possible with telkom superfast adsl ?
 
No. From my calculations the max would be about 300-400 Gigs a month. That's using a 1024 line flat out with the best possible speeds, which we all know never happenes.

So basically, yeah, he's just an idiot!
 
You should be able to download about 3.7GB per day if you average 45K/sec downloads 24hrs a day (on a 512 line). So that's about 111GB/month. On a 1024 line that would be 222GB.

They must have used the same account from multiple locations to download 800GB.
 
Maybe with four concurrent connections running flat-out 24/7 on 1024 lines?

Although even then, I don't really see how this is possible. You'd run out of things to download very quickly, especially if you were restricted to what's available on the local loop.

And where the heck are these abusers putting this "800gb of stuffs"? Do they also buy four 200gb harddrives a month so they have a place to store the fruits of their "abuse"? Sorry, this sounds like more Telkom BS to me.
 
Well they had that scheme of 30 people using the same account each day and downloading to their heart's content for that day, upon which they all use a different account the next day and do the same, but of oucrse local was uncapped so DC++ etc was the order of the day. Upload also accounts for quite a bit of traffic. Perhaps thats a way to get to the 800GB's but never in SA can someone do 800GB's on any Telkom ADSL service.. not with one login anyway.

LOL! He must be referring to 800 gigabit! That's 100 gigabyte, which seems possible. Talk about misleading the public :rolleyes:

No one refers to storage in bits.
As stated before, obviously concurrent connections.

It wasn't a scheme, it was working 100%...till telkom limited connections to 2 concurrent connections per account. Ah...I could remember those days...it was truelly wonderfull. :D

who said they getting from localloop. some of thous site r slow in getting the stuff...

I actually heard about htis very scheme yesterday. they cant do it anymore obviously, as you can now only get 2/4 concurrent logins, but the idea was 30 users each with 1 account. Each day all 30 logon to the same account, and then switch accounts for the next day. Each account basically cap immediately, but it doesnt take effect untill the last user gets his 24-hour bounce.

So.... how much can 30 1Mb links do in 24 hours ? then multiply that with 30 days.... 1 * 60 * 60 * 24 / 8 = +-250GB a month ?

Its folks like these that make it difficult for the rest of us. No wonder telkom is up in arms about "abusers". These are the ppl they were talking about.

Yeah, but penalise the abusers, not the damn country. Botom line TELKOM saw a way to defraud us from more cash. Then they STAGED the whole sorry story with only someISP's. That is it !
 
Boo freakidy hoo...they raped us with their ridiculous pricing...my friends and I just returned the favour. :D
