MSI HD6970 vs Club 3D HD6970 ?

Heya all, I ordered a Club 3D HD 6970 from Wootware, but they told me they don't have stock, and advised I go for the MSI instead, which is only < R50 more...

The MSI warranty is apparently 36 months, vs 24 months for Club 3D

Do you think it's good advise?

you don't need to wait, it's a better brand (coming from someone who has a Club3D card) and the warranty's a year longer

Definitely go for it.
 
Given a choice and r50 difference the MSI should be preferred even if stock wasn't an issue.

Why not get the MSI 6950 though? The BIOS flash makes it a 6970... Big saving (that can go towards your IPS screens...)!
 
AFAIK it's not a true 6970 though, performance will not be quite the same?

If they were exactly the same, then who would ever buy the 6970?

Does anybody know of any reviews of 6950 flashed performance?
 
I haven't read that much up on it, but AFAIK it's identical?

Archer would be the one to shed some light.

My friend has the MSI 6950, flashed, now reported as 6970... ;)

I'm getting myself the VTX3D 6950 now, but it seems that (depending on the risk you want to take with changing things) you'll get close to identical performance as a 6970. But there are definitely differences, such as the max power consumption between the two cards etc.

The success rate is pretty impressive and with the dual bios you really cant go wrong.

I take it though that whilst you can flash it, you cannot OC it much?

And I did know about this before, a friend also did it...
 
That's exactly what I was eluding to, without actually saying it ;)
 
You'll definitely have a faster card if you go for the 6970, because even if you mod + OC the 6950 you only reach 6970 stock speed. The 6970 can then pull ahead with additional overclocking. It's just a really good deal to get a 6970 for the price of a 6950 :) ... Wootware has some good specials at the moment on pre-ordered HIS 6950's, looks like they're available next week.

Back on topic: If you have the money go for the MSI 6950, otherwise if you want to save some money go for a 6950 and mod+OC it... get 2 and you'll get performance at a really good price :D

6970's don't have much OC headroom left anyway, so unless you need 2GB for something I'd say 560 Ti and OC ftw..
 
The GTX 560 Ti does look like a winner, apparently though ATI release a 6950 1GB (which is better for 1920x1080 gaming) which is causing quite a bit of trouble for the 560 Ti. I'm quite keen though to try eyefinity gaming and for that you'd need that 2GB memory. In general if you're going for high resolution (2560x1600) + DX 11 gaming the 6950/70 is a better bet than the Nvidia's.

Some info on the GTX 560 Ti - The 6950 2GB really doesn't do a bad job, it beats out the 560 Ti quite often.
