What i find the worst is that if you load CFW for homebrew they are making it hard for you to buy new games even without wanting PSN.

It is simailar to the Wii, I cracked my sisters one for her because she cant afford buying allot of games but she would still buy the odd one as well as getting games for christmas/birthdays.
But it is becoming harder and harder to get bought games to work so shes buying less and less.

If sony forces me to upgrade my firmware before I can play a game I just bought but that means I lose functionality i still want, guess whats going to happen the next time I want a game...

Did you hack your PS3

I hear the hard drive swap issue is now resolved.
It appears it is only fixed if you still have your original hard drive and you have not reformatted it. Otherwise you're still screwed. I'm seeing another class action suit in Sony's future.

That loss of functionality could be your PS3 becoming completely unusable if you swapped your drive.

Ok, to confirm. I have an original release 60gig. NEver formatted, never changed. Does that mean i can now upgrade my drive without problems? Funny, as i have bought the drive, and was stopped as soon as this problem was released.

According to reports you can upgrade to 3.56, then install the new drive and then do the 3.56 upgrade again. Not sure why the second upgrade is needed.

If it were my PS3 I'd stick with whatever firmware I have until Sony gets their heads out of their asses and definitively sorts this problem out.

That the thing. I game online a lot, have not cracked my PS3, and thus have to uprgade to each and every firmware update in order to play online. Genuinely feels like we held to ransom. In the 3 - 4 years we have had PS3, in total we must have had a total of 3 firmwares which improved gameplay / graphics / or added a feature. My PS3 was released with FW 1.6. All the rest have been security updates and cr@p. This is not to mention the numerous game updates. Bladdy Sony!!!
