I have to admit, I am not finding the Internet enjoyable at all. I lost my 30Gig account, which is too expensive to continue. Back on only 3Gig and seeing as my average usage was just under 10Gigs a month I have to cut back. 30Gigs at the lower rates was great because I did not have to think or restrict myself. Now I do. It sucks! Telkom sucks! :(

Totally. We shouldn't have to worry about petty restrictions like bandwidth caps. The internet is supposed to remove barriers, not create them!
 
Enjoyable is definately not the term that comes to mind. With a latency of between 800 and 1700 ms to a NAMIBIAN server no less. I mean, cmon it's not like tey're on the other side of the planet. Before 1/11 it was a usable 200 to 400ms. Besides that, downloading any kind of demo software to test is out of the question now.

i voted yes.

Here is my reason, i pay for an uncapped account... since all the millions of leechers are off my response times are better, the p2p servers are not overloaded and i get max speed the entire time.

Obviously i pay for it - it costs me 1600 per month... i am not happy paying that price, but at least now i feel like i am in the fast lane on an open highway not in a lamborghini stuck in the fast lane on the M1 between jhb and pretoria at 5pm.

The cost i think is disgusting but your question asked if my experience has been better... the answer is yes.
 
i don't use p2p but and only once went over 3GB but this whole watch you bandwidth like crazy, calc and recalc how much you have left/how to spend it wisely etc is driving mad.

....... and then Telkom came along and spoiled the party.

On a certain level I agree with ganymede1, if you can afford it your ADSL should / will be so much better now.

The fact is that I never had the technical knowledge or time to get the most from my 30GB account.

Yet some PFY with a borrowed softcapped SAIX account could get more throughput than me.

Telkom will squeeze us untill we turn on each other.

ADSL should not have be tweaked, it should just work !

3GB is like having a pee next to the road late at night, you are always concious of the oncoming headlights.
 
I really am still enjoying the net the same. I had to get used to a little less bandwidth, but im lovin it!!
 
I took it as an opportunity to explore and embrace change.

All of my client’s accounts were upgraded, haphazardly, over the years and passed from one ISP to the next during mergers and acquisitions.

Most of them list contact people who have long since left and nobody even knows the root passwords any longer.

So I ordered a 30GB account, installed it at one client and started monitoring true usage, without having to tell the users to back off, and then moved it around between clients.

The figures were interesting and, now that everyone has a hard cap, the playing field has changed for all ISP’s, so now is a good time to shop around.

So I am taking this opportunity to move my clients onto the optimum accounts, with better ISP’s and at the same time start anew so that we all know what is going on.

So:

Is it more enjoyable? Yes in that it's a clean start
Am I doing less online? Still the same because I now have figures to work on.
Pretty much the same as always? Yes
Not sure? I have to wait till the accounts are all converted but so far the price savings offered by the new ISP’s are compensating for the hard cap.

So I think I will abstain on this vote. :)

yay, i can not download anime any longer...

yay, i can not download game demos any longer...

yay, i can not download linux distros any longer...

yay, i can check my e-mail(not too often though since i down ~60mg worth of mail a day)

what i can still do(i think):
Play CS, play Quake 4, browse, IRC
 
Im sure its slower , and on the odd occasions I can get on here between son and hubby its the flippin pits .. there goes my music collection:mad:
 
Dunno, but to me it does feel slower.

I thought at first with less ADSL Subscribers it would be better but still shafted n worse than usual.
