This might seem like a silly question which is already answered by the very nature of the question, but in my eyes that isn't necessarily so because of the reverse case scenario, you'll see what I mean in a bit...

The Question: Is it possible to sign up for the Mweb 4Mbps uncapped HOME product to use for a small business? I handle the basic I.T. needs for a small company which currently does about 5-20GB a month, currently using Mweb's 'capped' product where we have a 7GB account and then top-up as needed...

The reason I ask is: we don't want to sign up for the Mweb Business Uncapped for the following reasons:
1) We don't want to sign a 12/24-month contract
2) We don't want to be forced to wait for, and then use the compulsory 'business standard' ADSL modem, our Siemens 762SX modem is fantastic
3) We don't need a 'totally unshaped business-standard' account, and most importantly we don't want to have to pay 4 times as much for that if we aren't going to need it.

So, as we all know, if Home users are willing to pay for a Business-standard service it's usually not a problem for them to receive that service. Would it be possible then for our small business to use the Mweb Home uncapped 4Mbps option? As I say, we'll probably never exceed 50GB a month anyway, and we aren't worried about the level of shaping that these accounts have (I know what to expect from personal experience at home).

In other words, the service available from a standard Mweb Home account will be more than sufficient, so as a small company, we can't justify paying so much more just to meet the 'business' criteria

I'd appreciate some feedback on this, either from another small/medium business who has taken exactly this approach, or from an Mweb rep.

Thanks =)

yes as long you don't vpn insane amount of data, if going on emails and browsing and some basic files needed,then you will be fine.

I have been wondering what stops a small business from using a service as mentioned. I suspect the business account has priority in case of failures and if the "home" account used too many gigs it will be throttled during the day. BTW, my uncapped Afrihost account is throttled drastically till approx 7pm (I haven't checked exactly when) and moves after midnight till 7am. I wonder how this compares with Mweb. I don't mean a new account, one with a track record. BTW I am not complaining just stating a fact. :-)
I am throttled from the 1st of the month so this 20% nonsense doesn't make sense.

Yes you will have no problem doing so. I manage a few networks for company's running on Mweb uncapped with ipsec vpn's and voip servers. There is no shaping on ipsec and sip traffic thus working better than most unshaped options.

Yip, shouldnt be any problem. I also half-an-half run the IT dept at the company I work for, we've been using the R539 4mbit uncapped since May'10 (actually wasnt branded as a HOME account yet), registered account in the company name etc etc no problems. We do on average 150GB a month (mostly online backups) and to date I havent been contacted by Mweb to complain. If you take a look at some of the other threads here you'll see many home users :erm: pulling well over 400GB on these accounts, so your 50GB wont be a problem at all!
