Gecube Radeon X700 - Is This Good???

Just looking for some advice on wat u guys think of this card!
Is it worth getting or wat?? - its going for R1299 inc vat

Best way to shop for cards is to see how they benchmark, either google the name of card & bencmark ie. "radeon x700 benchmark"

or check out sites like www.tomshardware.com & www.anandtech.com

the manufacturer is fine (just got myself a new gecube x850 xt pe) and some of my friends also have gecubes.

the chipset is not one of my favourites though. the midrange belongs to nvidia thanks to good pricing on the 6600GT. i think you will find a 6600 gt giving better performance... [edit] at least mostly.

if you cannot find a 6600 gt cheaper than the offer you currently have, then the x700 is the better choice. also, the x700 puts up a good fight but narrowly misses

been looking a 6600gt or even a 6800 , 6800 LE or 6800 gt, but they so flippin expensive.

im looking to spent about R2200 max on a new card!

there are alot of options...also i see there is a 5950 ultra for like R1600 which isnt to bad!

photonman, the 5950 shouldn't be on that list. It is about as fast as the 6600 plain, or maybe a bit faster, but a plain 6600 is R1100 at the most, so it doesnt make sense. I would recommend a 6600GT most probably, but X700 is also decent. Performance wise the X700 and plain 6600 are about equal from my experience, but a 6600GT is quite a bit faster. actually, the 6600GT and x700 pro 256 are pretty closely matched. the vanilla 6600 lags behind them both quite a bit.

the diffs between the x700 pro 256 and the 128 seem to be negligable, but hey, if the price is right ;)

but yeah, try and avoid the 5950. they are fastish, but the visuals are prolly better on the 6600GT since it supports more up to date shaders and stuff.

For R2 200 you can grab a vanilla 6800... nice card

Get the X700 and use the omega drivers to soft-upgrade it to x800

Value for money I would go for the X700, its not a bad card but with standard drivers its under performace to other x700's - Omega Drivers fix this with the soft mod.
