I feel like I'm a ping pong ball...

I've been 'trying' to confirm that my residential ADSL line has been cancelled (which I hear was already cancelled, apparently - though the phone still working).

So I sent them a fax through around the 14th of last month, since my bank account get deducted around then. Monday I phone to get confirmation, but alas no fax has been received. So I faxed yet another request and asked the person for a number to phone for a confirmation that they have received my fax.

Since Tuesday I have been getting an average of 3.5 'wrong' numbers from 0860 to 031 to a grand total of 14 numbers, just to get confirmation that my request has been processed. And guess what I just got off the phone ... "erm sorry sir you have reached the wrong department, try this number"

FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the time you contact the office of the CEO everyone is jumping up and down and kissing your a$$, unfortunately they are so useless this wont give you any results, but its sure fun to be the windshield sometime.

Me it go me nowhere, hell I had to fix my own line with sidecutters, multimeter and installation tape, do you think I should request the R154 callout fee?

I cancelled too. Faxed everthing blah blah, called the next day to see if it was received. Get told "Ahh, this is a residential line, please refax to this number and I will fax it to the correct department". I did so.

Now I am too afraid to phone to see if they have received my second fax!

I just bit the bullet and called again. They cannot confirm if it has gone through to the residential department, and they are unable to confirm this as there are (in her words) "millions" coming through every day!! Anyway, all she said is fax it again.....

I have faxed it twice more, now with RESIDENTIAL LINE in bold!!!

Come 30th Nov this line and ADSL had better be dead.

I asked them to cancel my adsl on Monday telephonically. They confirmed, gave me a reference number and told me it would be done within 72 hours. It is now Friday and when i phoned and crapped them out they said it would be done today. I am fairly certain that when i get home i will still have the adsl enabled on my line.

Does anyone know what 240w of electricity would do to a Telkom telephone line?

PS If you want to cancel your line just put a stop order (R30 at FNB) on your bank account and they'll disconnect it as soon as your payment hasn't gone through! I call that efficiency!
Or alternatively, phone: 031 363 2200 and speak to Alana Pretorius.

Use two phases, gives 380 volts, makes the smoke come out faster, send pics.

You're going to be waiting a while :p

:o Duh, fixed my little error!! Hmm, I hope I did not put that date on the fax, TELKOM are gonna be CONFUSSLED!!!!

Faxed application for 1Mb still waiting x2 , just given up.

4 months and counting!

I feel your pain! The technician has come and the ADSL portion on the line has gone but the billing continues. Each month I spend 6 hours on the phone to Telkom sorting it out and each time they tell me it will be sorted out!?

The next month comes and still the billing for the ADSL continues!? They will probably cut off my phone line while I'm on holiday, burglars clear out my home, alarm won't work and I'll be in for a surprise when I get home damn them.

My ADSL at home died today. And what do you know? No-one at 0800 375 375 is answering THE BLOODY PHONE!!!!!!

AAAAARGH!!!!

If i had to cancel, and they had to f@!K me around like that, i would refuse paying them. Infact, the money i owe them, i'd use (GLADLY) to obtain as much FAX numbers at telkom, and FAX BLACK paper with White letters with my details for them to CANCEL my line before i'd bother paying them - OVER AND OVER - till they bother to contact me to tell me its done.

I hate them that much.

As for dumping 240volts onto their lines - oooooh ;)

Ye, every byte costs money these days :D

Well guess what, I got a phone call from Telkom accounts - "Sir we tried to debit your order the amount of R600, but it didn't want to go through ..." (phew thank the banks for stop-orders). So I "nicely' explained to the lady that I had CANCELLED my ADSL!!!!

Timeline of woe.

ADSL goes down sometime during the day yesterday.

18:00 phone Telkom. On hold for 15 minutes.
18:30 phone Telkom from my cell. On hold for 5 minutes.
20:30 phone Tekom from my cell. Free air time. I burn 20 free minutes.
20:50 phone Telkom 10219 and ask THEM to log a call. Niceguy Neil sends an e-mail to the useless 0800 375 375 people to log a call.

08:30 phone Telkom. On hold for 15 minutes. Someone answers. What email? Speak to the manager. Explain my situation. She's very sorry. Will get a agent to call me back to log a call and will follow up on the mysterious email and the reason for people not answering their phones. She will personally deal with my call.
09:00 someone calls back. I log a call. I have a reference!
17:10 the manager calls. I'm in a meeting. She leaves a message promising an update when she calls me again tomorrow.
17:20 phone Telkom. 0800 375 375 option 3. Someone picks up the phone and puts it down in my ear. I call again. No one answers the phone. I phone 0800 375 375 option 2, then 4. On hold for 10 minutes. Option 3 again. Still no answer. Option 2, then 4. On hold for 10 minutes. Someone answers. They look up my call reference. It has been escalated to management (I KNOW!), but nothing has been done. Ask to speak to the manager. On hold for the time it has taken me to type this post SO FAR while they are trying to phone that other department on my behalf.
Ah! 17:50. Someone answers. No sir, sorry sir, they can't get hold of that department either. I speak to the service manager. He can't help me, but he will e-mail the idiots on the other side to contact me and give me an update.

18:00 - Waiting.
