Hi All. I live in ahouse that has ADSL to every room. My prob is that other ppl are using up the bandwidth that i deerly need. Can I run and adsl account through the same router that the others are using at the same time or is this impossible. I would think if you are using bridged mode that it could be but the house's internet is running through a proxy so they can monitor the usage and charge acordingly. I would like to get my own ISP account with my own bandwidth. Can Any1 suggest something plz

It can be done, but I don't suspect one of the 'cheaper' routers can do intelligent routing, ie, depending on where the traffic comes from, send it over a different interface, its really up to the router software that will limit the possibility..

I would like to do it as simple as possible and thinking maby that I need to get a splitter on the telkom line and connect both ADSL routers to one line and then just set them up seperatly ? Is this possible ?

Please clarify
Are you saying that with the right router/modem you can simultaneously be connected to more than one ISP or ADSL account over one ADSL line?
I would like to be able to do this but thought one required seperate ADSL lines for each connection.
Thanks for your help

I am successfully logged into 2 separate accounts using a single Windows XP machine and a USB modem. It's easy as pie to setup (you can do it in under 5 minutes), and I'll create a separate thread with all the details before the end of the weekend (gotta run now...).

Could we get in touch with Bishop and ask if he has created this thread ?

Although this will not help me much as I need to have my own connection to my own pc through the same adsl active telkom line as the other users

Can anyone help?

Hi guys,

I currently run two accounts (on different pc's) through one router and one ADSL line. The only issue is that if one of the accounts is hogging the bandwidth the other get nothing. You can have two accounts going through one router on one line - just keep in mind that you are limited to the speed of the line.

Easy way to do it is to plug the adsl modem / router into a cheap 8-port hub and connect all PC's to the hub. Set the router (if it is a router) to bridge mode - install PPPoE client on every PC and each PC does its own login - and this can be done with different accounts at the same time

Thanks for the replies guys
Does using the router in bridge mode have any effect on the firewall protection provided by the router?
Also am I correct in assuming that using the router in bridge mode requires a seperate concurrent connection for each pc?

I use bridge mode on my network.

I've set up an old P133 running win2003 server to act as my gateway and I share the ppoe dialup with the rest of the network. I have enabled the firewall on the ppoe connection and also run allegrosurf to block undesirable sites, as well as manage each user's bandwidth usage - one of the users is an Exchange server. Having a dedicated pc for connection makes me impervious to arb reboots that are caused by software installation as well as making overall managability easy.

Works well for me.

multi routers

I have 2 different phone lines in my house and i was wondering if you can have one router for each one, as i do not get a signal from where the one is at the moment. or is there a different way around it that you may know of.
