Hello, three operators is not enough, especially not in SA the 'price fixing capital of the world'. Countries that seriously want competition in the market typically have six. Even countries like Malawi support six operators. (There is room for at least six in SA, the proof comes from the operators themselves, e.g. IIRC Vodacom/MTN based their initial estimations of generating ROI on a projected market size of 1,000,000 clients over ten years. Given that Vodacom alone have over 15,500,000 clients already, it stands to reason that even 15 operators could all in theory make a profit. Looking at Vodacom's insanely high profits and profit margins (very similar to Telkom), it's pretty clear that there is room in the market for still more profitable operators) Where the hell does this notion come anyway from that three is a magic number that will create competition? Witness the "four pillar" banking BS, and still no competition there. As long as there is no threat of a new entrant, all existing players will settle on uncompetitive pricing.
