Hi All,

I am certain i am not alone on this, but i hope cell c is working on this?

Please compare you weekend pings and speeds to our weekday Pings and speeds here, and include week peak and off peak Pings/speeds.

I hope that this thread will help improve peak period Ping/speed issues seen lately...

In my experience:

- pings go from 60ms-80ms weekends
- to Pings of 170ms and 190ms plus peak hours
- issues occur between 6pm until midnight (last 2 days)and most of last week (the weekend was great)
- Many online applications are useless and the network speeds are very poor
- speeds 1mb/s during peak Down (0.5mb/s Up)
- 8mb/s + over weekends (1.5mb/s Up)
- pings 89-90ms weekdays off peak
- Rssi -51dbm weekends
- Rssi -57 dbm weekdays

Cell C please use this info to determine a work around the peak period congestion.
I hope it won't get worse.

RSSI is -75 dBm, so that can't be the problem.

Sounds like a tower issue/ network issue. Log a complaint on there Facebook wall, i have had fast responses there.

You should connect your modem with a directional antenna from poynting direct, it will boost your speeds and improve your ping and Rssi. Problem is that you will be in a fixed location unless you use a wireless router?

I have logged several complaints, but so far have received no satisfaction. I used to get great speeds even with -85 dBm. Now at -75 dBm, which is considered a good signal, I don't see any point in spending another R1000+ on a Poynting antenna which I'm sure will make no difference anyway. The problem lies with the Cell C network, not with my signal strength.

Hi,

I'm also in Durbanville - I also noticed the same thing... was downloading a lot since Sunday... on Sunday and Monday, speeds were great... but last night, it was extremely slow (much less the 1Mbit/sec... often around 100kbit/sec)!

I noticed the same at the end of last month... and previous months, when my cap is almost finished.

Can they be shaping our bandwidth when we are close to finishing our cap? I often can't use the last 200MB of data at the end of the month - the connection is just too slow.

Cheers
Greg

Cell c rep called after i left a complaint on Hello Peter, they have arrange a technician to call me... tonight or tomorrow... will keep you posted.

My poynting antenna takes me from -75 dbm to -51dbm, and gives me speeds of 7mb/s - 11mb/s and pings around 69dbm, when the towers work....

You are right.

Although the antenna is worth it for me, my wife uses the 7.2mb/s cell c dongle and does not need the extra speed and is happy without an antenna... it all depends on your use i guess....

Excellent - will be interesting to see what is wrong.

If Cell C's seriously planning on sending out technicians then I'm starting the get worried. HALF of Western Cape is complaining so no, the problem is not our setups but something on Cell C's side. In Dec/Jan I had awesome speeds and now in Feb everything is beyond useless. My signal is 90%+ so no problem there.

I surely hope Cell C resolves this problem before the new consumer protection act kicks in, otherwise refunds for everyone.

10pm SA time surely most people are sleeping... come on cell c why so slow!!!!!

Live in Rondebosch - close to Red Cross Hospital - think there is a tower there? and never get over 1mbps speed even though connection is fine. Often only around 300kbps and fluctuates during the day too. Go through to my friend in Gardens and I get 4mbps nearly all the time! wtf - same connection power - so do different towers give different speeds? I guess so....

ok so it's 12.40am (way past bedtime) and i've noticed for the first time that I am on HSPA+ for more than the usual few seconds (usually on wCDMA or whatever it's called) and i just got a 120ping and 2mbps download - fastest ever here! So it clearly is a time of day thing... but I live in a suburban residential area of houses, so surely fewer uses than in Gardens in the city where it is mainly flats... what gives? The hospital using it all up??

Its month end kla the cap week....

Slow down in Durban also thou suddenly picked up from 10kb/s average to 300kb/s in matter of min's

Recently I've seldom got over 1mbps down and 0.03mbps up. Did the Speedtest several times last night (between 8pm and 11pm) and they all ranged between 0.2 and 0.6mbps down, and between 0.02 and 0.05mbps up. I've had the technicians at my place last week, and they agree my signal is up to ****, even though I am surrounded by towers (Claremont, Cape Town). They were supposed to run some kind of diagnostic on the towers and get back to me with an explanation and plan. Predictably they didn't. I'm fed-up beyond belief.
