Broadband essential for economic growth

roy - where does the lion's share of the blame rest for this little state of affairs? hmmmmmmmmmm?
 
It has been said that a definition of madness is 'doing the same thing over and over; everytime you do it you expect a diferent result'. The Roy's and the Ivy's talk about Telkom pricing as if it's a new thing to us. IT'S NOTHING NEW, everbody knows that (unless you're trying to convince yourselves otherwise). Stop waiting our time with bull, we want ACTION and not some eloquent (spell) political nonesense.
 
Hey what a surprise another speech! Lemme check the Telkom site to see if the prices have come down.....nope... *shocked*...not.
 
One of the reasons the Government gave for its interest in having shares in Telkom (and the SNO) was so that they could ensure that these operators acted in the best interests of the country. Simply because the telecoms sector is one of the key enablers for the country's economy. Fair enough. However, judging from their own comments (such as Roy), Telkom has failed to act in the best interests of the country. This is shown by its insane pricing structures. Which means that the Government has failed to "control" Telkom, even with its 38% stake.

Would it be incorect for one to then assume that the Government's 38% stake in Telkom is nothing short of an easy way for them to make a healthy profit at the expense of the public??? Methinks not.

Which is why I always find it funny whenever one of these Government dudes criticise Telkom.

As always there is a lot of talk and talk is where it stay's, in this country as we try to grow our company's we get kicked back to the stone age
 
As I always say,

increased economic growth = increased education
increased education = more informed voters
more informed voters = political parties held to greater accountability
political parties held to greater accountability = bye bye sheep mentatility voting
bye bye sheep mentatility voting = no more easy victory for ANC

So, why should the government promote economic growth?
 
South Africa is most definitely behind developed countries regarding broadband services but it seems that we have come to accept that we can no longer expect to move in those circles.

That statement worries me, and Roy's little speeches with zero action is just becoming irritating to be honest.

If you are not going to do anything rather be more like Ivy and say nothing. Its not funny when you f@#k with peoples money and livelyhoods.

after a resent discussian with a mate of mine who has just got a contract in india ( from the states). he said he would much rather come here but said it was imposable with telkom, there would be no demand and any one that wanted to netcomute could not do it in a resoble and afordiable mannor.

distruction of telkom is nessery for groth !
 
Instead of effectively introducing a SNO and legalizing the self provisioning of VANS, the DoC found more value in investing in two talk shops to discuss what has to be done.

I wonder, sins the President read so much, if he ever would take time to read this forum.

We are all shouting the same thing but nothing is been done about it. Instead they just nod their heads and say that there is a problem but just give us another 10 years to full our back pockets.
 
I find it hard to believe that a Government who keeps bemoaning various aspects such as lack of education, high poverty levels, high crime rates etc etc only TALKS about things and never DOES anything.

Talk is cheap as we all know, and in South Africa nothing ever bloody gets done. What is here now was done a long time ago, not recently.

Government takes no initiative to change things because they don't have to.

Where is the pride Government is supposed to show in its country?
 
well with everything this gov first talks about it for a few yrs and then 1st looks at a couple solutions and then only perhaps some action but less that we expect. So.. perhaps 2020 ?

It must be asked, how competent are the people in power, meaning the DoC and specifically the people that influence these types of decisions?

The criteria for placing people in these positions it would seem is based primarily on 'loyalty' to the party, talking the talk, no walking required, with 'ability' coming in a very distant,,, last.

I doubt that this is anything new, but we have surely reached critical mass here.
Telkoms antics are hurting everyone and the country as a whole. At what point does someone actually cut this monster down to size?
