Just had this reply from Neotel:

"Please be advised the prepaid service will be activated tomorrow as per feedback we have received."

Anyone else hear this?

It refers to former post-paid customers being able to re-use the Neotel phones on a pre-paid basis.

I queried the process - assuming that it would require a trip to a Neotel store - but now they replied saying this can ONLY be done by calling the Call Centre.

If it can be done by the Call Centre, why the embargo on doing it at one of the stores?!!

I do wonder sometimes....

Any news on this? Can we now convert postpaid Neotel to Prepaid?

Actually there is.

I'm assuming you already terminated your contract otherwise you will have to go through that step first. You will have to pay liquidated damages if you terminate before the 24 month as been reached.

I think you also have to notify your intention to quit otherwise a new contract is rolled-over!

I've been maintaining contact with them using email since NOV last. Just this week I finally got notified that my phone would be activated (yesterday actually). Unfortunately, things did not work out. Eventually, it was discovered that their records indicated I had a different ESN on my Dupont, than the one I actually have (see label underneath). As a result, the activation was for another device!

I think this confusion arose because the month before I terminated Post-paid, I went to Midrand to swap my defective Dupont.

Anyway, Tech Support have updated the records and its been sent back to PrePaid department for activation, supposedly in 24hrs.

What should YOU do? Well, your Neotel phone still works for calls to Neotel, so give them a ring (0800 free call) and ask them if they are aware that you are waiting to be activated for PrePaid service.

FYI - you will be given a new number! Your old Neotel number is still useful for them to find your details.

Back online with Neotel

I'm back on the Neotel network - now Prepaid. Works just fine and they have an IVR just like a cell company, for querying your balance and recharging.

They even gave me R10 free airtime to test it (airtime window 1 year).

Just made my first call to an MTN cellphone which cost all of R0.95. Off-peak that drops to 0.85. Call quality just fine.

Internet still available very cheaply (albeit slow at only 1mbs) but useful for when my monthly data bundle on Cell C is depleted.

No monthly fixed fee (a la Telkom).

And jeez, if I want to I can actually get in the car with it! Try that with Telkom.

So glad I got this sorted.

Thanks Neotel.

What device do you have? I had Neotel Prime and they said it cannot handle prepaid.

I also had Prime (5G) so I have the Dupont BC2703.

Try again, you obviously got someone who was wanting to get to the loo...

Neotel has created a department for PrePaid. If anyone says no to you, just say you need to speak to a supervisor as you know someone with a BC2703 who was connected last week.

Suerte!

Thanks - will engage them again and paste the outcome! :)

Logged a call this morning - consultant said there is no reason why prepaid cannot be activated - will get update next week.

It is now 6 days later - request is still being processed. It boggles the mind .......

I can sympathise. It was a less than smooth implementation for me too. I think however, that despite the apparent lack of action, they are slowly working on it.

Really, the best way to make progress, is to call every 2 days and ask if you can speak to the Prepaid department.

Regrettably, Neotel don't really help themselves. Be patient, I am happy I perservered. Access to an 011 number, cheap calls and a fallback Internet connection when ones bundle has expired, is worth the effort.

Calls made - promises made to me - waiting for response - non - calls made - promises made to me - etc.

IS THERE A NEOTEL REP ON THIS FORUM? - I AM NOT SURPRISED THAT NEOTEL IS IN TROUBLE.
