Web Africa offers Skype connectivity to its customer service department

How is this even newsworthy, and how does it help a customer who is experiencing problems with their ADSL line???

valid point but...
1. you might be calling about your hosting, or domains, billing etc.
2. I have skype on my phone
3. I can use skype at work
4. I can use skype at my friends place.

I had to read the piece twice to figure out that they mean you can call them via Skype!
I am a WebAfrica client (for now) and was unaware of this. Will keep it in mind.

Don't be so short-sighted. 95% of my calls to WebAfrica have nothing to do with a faulty ADSL line. If your logic is to be taken seriously, then you should ask yourself why Telkom accepts support/customer calls from fixed lines.

Also, I can make Skype calls from my cellphone, using a 3G connection, or using one of the many WiFi networks that surround me in a normal working day.

This is good news, the more channels available, the better. I will definitely be using this going forward. I just hope that it will be much better than the sucky Jabber setup they had going previously.

Fail to see the point here -Are you relating this to cost? If so, these calls are free...like skype.

There are only so many calls their Technical guys can answer. Either Landline or Skype, much of a muchness. They can only address so many queries at any given time. I don't see how this will benefit the customers.

...Not that I care.

Agreed^

This is like saying they added another contact number for complaints/queries.

Hey igloonaut,

I don't think this is the kind of impression we're trying to put across here, but rather simply stating that we're offering Skype support into our Support Centre. Surely this is either an alternative or much cheapier way of getting hold of us?
Some valid points also brought up my Sapphiron.

Keep an eye on our Blog and Forums for some further updates - some really interesting articles pop-up, allowing you to be the first to read up about it :)

I still don't see how it is newsworthy - send a mail to your customers, but don't put out a press release. And also the money I save on having my hosting and ADSL elswhere means that, even if I called my ISP via Outer Mongolia on my cell phone I would still be paying less in total for the support call and the web products than if I was with WA!!! Again another "Free" service that you pay a premium for.

@igloonaut. Not sure why you so worked up about this, hint of jelousy perhapes? If I am not mistaken MyBB posts articles on just about anything internet related, is that not what MyBB's job is??

Anways personally I thinks it's fantastic, free calls to a private ISP :) Now I can even phone WA from overseas to help my less tech inclined family back here FOR FREE :)

Hmmm maybe neotel should have done this, only had NeoFail for 3 months and think I spent almost R350 on calls to place order, fix, cancel service.

Well good on you WA.

Nice one WA, hopefully this will help in improving your generally poor customer communication/service, if only you guys could work on delivering a better quality product.
