I first stumbled upon this app when reading the latest issue of GQ Magazine, went to Android Market and installed it.

But it doesn't like my meter number. When I try to register, it just says that my meter number is not valid.

Anyone using this app? Working smoothly?

Yip... had a few issues registering my credit card a month or so ago... but registered.... just yesterday I bought R500 electricity.

Damn, now that is what I call convenience!

Me want it as well! Will find out why is doesn't like my meter number.

They pretty good at responding too - much more helpful than paycity (who didn't bother responding after their first email).

I was specifically looking for something I could use a credit card with... (which has a 3.5% fee attached)...

There's nothing more annoying than have to drive to the local shop on a Saturday night to buy prepaid electricity. I hate it with an absolute passion.

The 3.5% fee is still cheaper than the petrol you waste, unless you're buying lots of electricity.

All I can say...FNB telephone banking. Takes me 1 minute to buy electricity through my phone. Damn I love that bank ;)

I use my phone in conjunction with ABSA's service to buy electricity. I even use the PayCity website or the sms option to buy electricity and it works quite nicely.

Good point! We ran out on Christmas Day in 2009 - and the only place we could buy was Checkers, Canal Walk - who were closed.

You can do that with ABSA as well... :p But neither allow credit card payments.

Dear Kingrob,

To what municipality did your meter belong to? The meter number is the first 11 digits on the card and there is 12 digits on the card.

It takes the same amount of time to buy with Powertime.

Powertime also provides reporting features to see your monthly consumption over a period of time.

Powertime has a virtual meter functionality where you insert what your current credits in your meter are before you top up and when you reach 50 units it sends out a push notification to remind you to top up.

These are some of many features Powertime has to offer. FNB does not offer any of these additional features.

Hey I'm going to give this a go!

Ekurhuleni = Cashpower right?

Unfortunately I discovered a possible bug - so withdraw my recommendation of the android application.

Used the app on Friday to buy electricity - R500 - then later that day I logged onto internet banking and saw 2x R500 pending charges - I then contacted them and they said I bought R500 twice, checking the tokens I saw they issued two R500 at exactly the same time.... at least they responded to my queries... and are now apparently looking for the bug, but until its found, I won't be using the app.
