IPAD 2 between 400 000 n 500 000 sold out during 1st wknd

yeah i bought one for my boet in manhattan on the 11th of March... Apple said it would only be delivered to him around the 22-29th of March o_0

I went to the Apple store around the corner from me on Friday at about 4pm... hundreds of people in the queue. Went to Bestbuy next door and there were like 10 people waiting so i thought, why not and bought one. Nice device, noticably quicker than the original and some of the Ipad2 optimised games are incredible. Mainly got one so that the wife could have the old one and stop hogging mine.

Seems like the rest of the world is gonna get sloppy seconds again. And ZA gets sloppy-sloppy seconds.

iPredict: we wait till June before it gets here. :(

not that i wanted to buy one.

They are saying something like 70% went to "new buyers" and that's quite a thing... The volume of sales even bumped Apple stock up on the Nasdaq

Will what's happened in Japan have any effect on delivery? Probably going to Bali in the last quarter of the year and would really like to pick one up.

No I don't think it will affect the iPad shipments at all. They come straight from China.

This looks like Apple is doing what it can to get as many of their iPads out there as possible. I might even be wrong with June.

The iPad units are assembled in China but the flash memory come from Hitachi in Japan. Apple falls back to Samsung and Micron whenever Hitachi cannot deliver quick enough. Will happen now.

Funny how the world really works ... Apple raids whatever stock is available anywhere, even from competitors like Samsung ... and Samsung sees Apple as its top priority customer. Samsung makes far more money out of Apple products than out of selling its own competing devices.

An Apple phone or tablet is like a bicycle. Designed by Apple but all the parts come from the very same places the competitors get theirs, and assembly happens at Foxconn in China. Apple = [(Samsung + Hitachi) x Foxconn] + Steve Jobs. Apple just does the design, marketing and process management parts far better than anyone else.

I bought the white 32GB Wifi version. My old one is 3G and i find i never use the 3G because there is so much free wireless in the USA. It really isnt that much different than the old one feature wise. It is quite a bit thinner which is actually a bit of a pain. When you are lying down watching a movie or reading a book the curved edges make it difficult to hold. The new cover helps as you can fold it up behind the Ipad on the left and it gives you something to hold onto. It looks very sleek and modern when you put it next to the old one though. The front facing camera is adequate for Skype video calls, they just need to update the App now so you dont have that 2X issue, and i like being able to flip between the two cameras when you are skyping. Everything is snappier and loads almost instantly and the optimised games are extraordinary... i find i actually use it as a gaming device whereas on the old one it was more of a gimmick. Not sure if it is CPU bound or an app issue but i cant get above 30mb download speeds on the speedtest.net app whereas on my laptop i often hit 65mb. Battery life seems good, averaging about 3 days of heavy use per charge. Price was as advertised $599 + State tax (9%).

and you can now sell it on ebay for about $950 if you were so inclined. the laws of supply & demand, a terrible thing to behold.
