SA’s poor hang up on Telkom, but Africa’s unconnected millions offer rich pickings

Telkom wants a piece of the lucrative Nigerian market. With a population of more than 120-million, Nigeria has enormous potential for telecommunications growth.


Analysts say although Telkom’s forays into the continent are welcome, the company could get a few more local customers if it reduces its charges. Telkom has disconnected millions of its South African customers for nonpayment. Many were connected as part of Telkom’s licence conditions during its state-guaranteed five-year exclusivity period, which ended in 2002.

These idiots only want te big bucks, they don't care about change. Why can't they see if they lower there prices they will get more clints and make more money.They see:high prices more profit.:confused:

They switched to cellular cos of the tariff structure, not the tariff rates. Oh the stupidity that abounds in this Telkom. They think we are dumb enough to believe them!

Agreed, and rightly so. My Telkom call charges for personal calls cost me around R5 per month. WAY cheaper to use a cell phone than a Telkom line.
Always nice to have to pay Telkom R100 or so for the privilege of making R5 worth of calls...
