I would like to know if it would be worth it to buy an Ipad 2? Currently I'm using my Samsung wave in the morning to brows through emails and such etc... But the screen as a bit small and annoying for these types of things...

I would like to know from the users of Ipad and other touch devices, Is it worth it?

What can you do on an Ipad?
Can you watch movies on it?
Does it support plug and play windows devices, Such as powered TB hdd etc...

:)

Yes, go ahead and feed the pockets of the Americans and help them fund their war efforts in the east. Then when there is at least one apple product in every home, they will turn on skynet and suck your brains!

Seriously though, no, you shouldn't. But don't listen to me, I'm biased against apple products because they've done a brilliant job of convincing people to want what they say you need. Call me irrational or crazy or whatever, but I'd rather be that than have my brains eaten one day...

I would get one :) I plan on it when i save enough funds and i can get it at a reasonable price!

I know this is off topic What about the Samsung Galaxy tab? Over the Ipad? (I still like the Ipad thou).

Must have iPad...Must have iPad... Must have iPad... Must have iPad...

What can you do on an Ipad? not much just browse and play iOS games
Can you watch movies on it? i think only mp4's (or anything off iTunes store) so if you want to watch a ripped movie you might need to convert it which can take a while
Does it support plug and play windows devices, Such as powered TB hdd etc... nope, there isnt even a apple proprietary hdd you can buy for it (and if there was it would cost you R2k im sure)

the latest tablets look promising (the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Motorola Xoom, iPad 2, LG Optimus Pad) out of the group id get a Xoom or 10.1, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" (the one that you can get anywhere right now) is a waste of money, its just a blown up android device.

Thanks for the information

Fair points. Would you now like to inform us about the TB HD available for the Xoom (keeping in mind that this is a portable device and a HD with a USB cable and a power brick doesn't count)? In fact all the models you mention are Android-powered. Do they support "Plug 'n play WINDOWS" devices?

In fact what can your Xoom really do that the iPad can't? Just curious ...

Just got my Ipad 2 for $499 plus tax. 16gig with wifi. Family member bought it in Florida this pm, he is on his way back to SA.

I am already preparing my wife, telling her to make her peace with the fact that I am going to get one before the end of the year. It will work so well with my parallels running on my mac currently

I sold my iPad to buy the iPad 2....i would suggest you get it....awesome device
To watch movies on it i use Air video which streams movies from my laptop to my iPad......converts it in realtime and streams.....great app
There is allot that you can do on an iPad.....you just have to be willing to explore

The advent of the iPad has ushered in talks of a "post pc era". Don't think in terms of it being a portable pc...it's not.
The tasks you can carry out on your iPad will be guided by the type of apps you are willing to download/buy. For example, we have one iPad in the house (which is a HUGE issue) and we all use it differently. My wife uses it to browse and read ELLE and listening to music and for notes she takes during meetings. I use it for gaming(stick cricket rocks...SA rocks on the iPad), movies(which I stream from a windows box), ebooks bought on amazon and using Teamviewer to connect to my windows 7 machine at work remotely. My five year old uses it for colouring in, educational games and to feed her online puppies.

As far as I'm concerned if anyone wants to use a tablet as a PC, they're missing the point. Android is missing the point. RIM is missing the point. HP is missing the point. Oh wait, let me end there...I'm going off at a tangent now.

Apple's competitors are still rushing tablet development. Don't purchase their products until Q4 or 2012 or a solid offering arises. In the meantime...iPad 2 will more than meet your needs. And if you want more "openness" on your iPad then jailbreak it!

You dont have to convert movies anymore because there are apps like buzz player and av player that plays any format avi, xvid, mkv even with subtiltes etc. Just got to copy movies over to the ipad using itunes. With apple products if you want to do something specific with the device go look for an app that can do it because there will probably be one on the app store or if jailbroken on cydia.

If you talking about the 10" yes I am actually waiting for that one
If you are talking about the overpriced 7" I would say go see a doctor

My iPad 2 will be arriving tomorrow, and no I don't like Apple and as soon as I get my 10" Samsung it will join my iPhone in the office, purely there for development purposes.
