Iphone 4 - send it for repairs, water damage, NO CHANCE!

So i send my iphone 4 in for repairs, home button stopped working.

After two weeks Vodacom, leaves a voicemail the phone has water damage and quotes me with R5400 to fix it.

I know without a doubt that phone doesnt have water damage, always in a case, not one scratch, NOTHING.

Now they tell me this, impossible.

What should I do?

well i just did a few mins of googling and it seems it's a very common problem with dust preventing the home button from working.. Typical of vodacom to blame you.
 
This is VERY common for VC to use the water damage excuse!!! I have heard loads of stories, exactly exactly the same! What BS!
 
There's a water damage indicator installed in the phone. It changes colour on contact with water. Ask them to see it and see what they say.. Of course they could just dab some water on it though and claim water damage..

It's hard to say what could stop the home button from working though..

Do all phones have those humidity strips? I'm very interested to find out about these as I'm sure they are prone to ingress.

Hey..

Don't know if it's true.. But I heard people said that.. When one takes out their phone to answer, it's like really hot, so vapour gets into the phone..

So.. even if it's not your fault.. There is still water damage..

(It actually happened to a friend of mine.. :( )
 
Yep, like I said above. Don't tell them you want to check it though, just ask them for the phone back and then check it yourself/ get it checked.
 
The water indicator is positive. I don't know what to do now, how can I go tell Vodacom that I never dropped it in water or anything like that. This is crazy.
 
Chances are you used the phone in the rain or spilled something on it? These water indicators are not that ultra sensitive and in my experience as a retailer, I have seen very few water damaged iphones. So perhaps you were a little negligent with it?
 
what if vodacom wet it and then just told you it's water damage...

Since hearing stories like this a few years ago, I always take a time stamped photo of the water indicator with the help desk and employees in the background.
