I just built me a new system.

Athlon 64 3000+
1 gig RAM
160GB SATA

But I couldn't afford a decent graphics card, am using the onboard ATI X200 at the moment, but its sluggish!

I have a very tight budget.

I have looked around and can either get the ATI x600 128MB or an Nvidia NX6600LE 256MB

What do I go for?

My motherboard supports PCI E 16x

thanks

I would go for the X600. You want to stay away from Limited Edition [i.e "LE"] cards as these are very tuned down cards from the original card.[in your case the original card is 6600]

Go for the 6600 Vanilla or GT Version, you can get the GT for R1500, very good card well worth it and better than the X600 and X700. The GT is 128mb but stil far superior to the LE, dont be fooled by megabytes... it's all about the pipelines and clock speeds.

what price range are you looking at?

and DONT go for LE, i once fell for it, and it just means its crap, or that its performance is very "limited", i guess thats what they mean by "Limited Edition"

I would go for the x600xt.
my 9600xt is still doing well even today with bf2, AOE3 etc.

Thanks all, im looking at max R1200 or so.
Ran 3dMark 2005 last night and in some tests scored only 6fps while others did 80fps.

pretty *** hey!

my friend has bought Nvidia 6800LE and overclocked by s/w to perform like 6800GT.
playing Quake 4 with high quality settings and have no problem.
value for money.

AFAIK its basicly the same chip, just underclocked to LE levels, but smtimes its a bad chip that couldnt run at GT levels so they made it LE and those u cant really clock very far.
