Hi guys,

I'm having trouble trying to get my wireless and lan connection to work concurrently. When I am using my 3g netwok then want to use ps3 media server to stream to the tv it just doesnt work! As soon as I disconnect the 3g connection then it works fine with no issues. Surely there is a way where I can surf on the net and use my lan at the same time?

Problem relates to network manager which only handles one connection at a time. You can disable it and manually setup your connections.

Is something else on the LAN acting as a DHCP server? NetworkManager can only handle one interface at a time (unless that's changed recently), so you'll have to configure your LAN connection manually and give it a static IP.

no i have set up a static ip.its a direct cable connection with my ps3.i set up my 3g (cell c) and lan connection manually so yeah not sure how to go about this

poorestguy,

If you want to use 2 network interfaces at the same time you first have to configure them each to do the specific job you want them to do.
If 1 of the interfaces is for the LAN only then dont configure it with DNS or a gateway, also make sure it is on a different subnet, then let your 3G handle your internet connection and connectivity to the outside world.
You should also look at static routing, it's a way to tell a service or device where to send its information instead of leaving it to go through the default connection.

big mistake guys, i didnt mention that i am having this problem in ubuntu..oops!my bad, let me repost my question with UBUNTU in bold :)
