View Full Version : Legal protection for websites. Disclaimers etc

Hi,

I run a couple of websites. I've always just placed a free, generic disclaimer on each site. However I'm increasingly worried about getting sued by some American (for whatever reason), so I would like to ensure that I have some decent protection in place.

I'm planning to contact a local law firm. Basically I'd want a legally sound disclaimer, terms and conditions, privacy policy etc that I can use on all my sites. Also, then I have somewhere to go in the event that I need advice or someone does sue / threatens to sue.

Most of my visitors reside in the USA, I'm not sure how that complicates things (another of the reasons I'm considering legal advice).

I'm open to suggestions, and recommendations if you know of any good law firms with the appropriate knowledge (internet expertise, local and international law). I found a couple on the internet, but a recommendation would be better.

Thanks

It depends what you want to protect yourself against. A disclaimer may vary from site to site depending on what protection you need. Terms and conditions the same. With the advertising site I run. I have to have a proper terms and conditions. Or businesses and people may take advantage of me. You can view that particular one here (http://www.aroundcapetown.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=9&Itemid=7). Hope this can help you.

What American Court is going to sue you here?

It depends where your site is based.
