Howzit,

I am going to New York during June 2011 and I will be buying an Ipad 2 (hopefully there will be stock...). My questions are will I be able to activate the Ipad in the States and must I have a sim card inserted for it to be activated? It would be nice to start playing with it from over there. Currently I own an Iphone 4 and thus have an Apple ID.

Hope you can assist

You need to connect it to a computer with iTunes to even start it.

Apart from that you should be fine.

You don't need a SIM card to get it started.

now that you can create a hotspot on your iphone, why not buy the wifi only version?

Another thing .... just be sure you buy the AT&T model and NOT the Verizon one if you want to use the cellular part of it back over here.

Thanks for the input,
Hopefully the Apple staff will help with the registration via Itunes. AT&T model and not Verizon model - Noted.

Never even thought of using the personal hotspot (still need to download ios 4.3) with the Ipad. If it works effortless I'll definitely consider buying only the WIFI model. I thought I'll go for the 32G WIFI +3G white model but after reading a few reviews regarding how the white models looks I actually just want a black 32G Ipad. Eish, then there's still the accessories....

It does work effortlessly. I recommend getting a Wifi model as well, if you have an iPhone. The White iPad does look very nice - I found that the white iPhone actually hides scratches and smudges very well, compared to the black. So will this.

Just a word of warning, the new one seems to scratch very easily on the back. My white Ipad2 already has a few nice scratches on the back. Front is still immaculate.
