Article: Commercial farmers leaving SA: report

The article states incorrectly that Georgia is a Soviet state.
The USSR does not exist anymore.

The article is correct that this country has changed from a food exporter to a food importer.

It is also true that 42 000 farmer families have applied to move to Georgia.

Soon this country would not only have to import most of their energy but also most of their food as well.

The farmers are "gatvol" and they are voting with their feet.

No doubt this regime will use this oppertunity to get their own people to utilise the farmland productively instead of utilising it for subsistance farming.
 
True.
The Chinese farmers would find it extremely difficult cultivating rice here but it would not be our problem.
Also most of the food produced by the Chinese might not even be sold here but intended for consumption in China.

Anyway it is not our problem anymore.
It is yours.
 
Yup and still nothing is done to curb this??, these farms that once produced 1000's of hectors of crops will be producing 5 miellies and a goat once in a while. This will be deemed a great success as they can sustain themselves.
I have seen a farm where 20 million worth of infrastructure is lying in ruins. This farm got taken back 7 years ago and given to a new up and coming farmer. He has 10 goats and stays in town. He hasn't been on the farm in 5 years.
This farm had 3000 hectares under maize and produced 300 head ox a year. I nearly cried as being a part time farmer myself.

This coupled with the farmers leaving , only makes one thing a reality, our food security is in jeopardy and its a very real threat. And I have heard several other stories of similar farms. It saddens me. :(

You can apply online to be eligible to move to Georgia.
You might also visit the TLU website for more info on moving to Georgia.

I heard that it takes 1 hour to get a drivers licence and personal licence plates in Georgia. LOL!

Yeah I wont move there, I love SA and the sound of cattle in the mornings when they go out for the day. If ever I leave it will be to Canada and not as a farmer but as a normal Joe Soap IT geek.

Would it perhaps be on the farms of the very same people that now intend leaving?

Believe it or not, the real reason a lot of farmers are going under is because of the subsidies offered to American and European farmers. They get something like a 25% subsidy to farm, which means they produce excess food. That food gets sold cheaply to other nations, which means the price plummets through the floorboards, too low for our farmers to compete. The South African price, for reasons I cant understand, is set by the Chicago Board of Trade. Meaning, South African farmers have no choice but to sell their produce at prices determined by nations which offer massive subsidies to their farmers. Thats the reason its so hard to compete - the price is too low and they cant make a living because they cant compete with subsidies.
 
Didn't the same thing happen in Zim & look at their economy. I say let them eat outdated political ideologies.

You know Zim was an extremely wealthy and democratic country before they took on these policies don't you?

Correct.
There are numerous other problems that the commercial farmer also have to contend with. We have a hostile, antagonistic government that discriminates against whites. We have farm attacks and murders and we have the land reform policies.

Being a farmer nowadays is risky bussiness.
It would be better to go where we would be appreciated.

A majority group would find this country democratic.
A minority group would not feel the same way about your "democracy".

As you are probably aware of, we do not find your so called "democracy" conducive to our health or well being.

You do not seriously think that we will stay in this country where we are being hated as you so rightly state?

Methinks it is better that you people starve in a famine than we get killed and murdered producing your food.

Would the poor in the townships happily pay twice as much for food once we are gone?

Somehow, i do not think so.
But you are welcome to your view.
