Is it just me, or are these little beasts hard to come by? I have some very specific requirements for a vehicle, any diesel model will do, but would prefer the 2.0TDi, 2009 or later, for about R220000 (low KM also important, <30000). I have seen 2 in the autotrader within my specs and budget, but they were sold just too fast. Actually I had first option on one in PE, unless he could get a cash buyer, which he did. :(

I have about 15 dealers looking for vehicles (but I also suspect searching goes as far as "I will call you if we get one on the floor". I have searched almost every car website imaginable, and they seem to sell quick! Also need to trade my vehicle which slows down everything!!!

Don't the Audi dealers have a database of all the second hand audi's available in the country?

Something like g2cars for GM, which basically lists all used GM vehicles available at the GM dealerships throughout the country, thats how I found my Corsa OPC in Cape Town.

Have you driven the s-tronic? I can't think why anyone would prefer the manual version unless they haven't driven both.

look at Burchmores

I look there now and then, also registered for email alerts.

Audi does have a database of vehicles. Not sure if the online one lists the same cars as the one they use though, but checking back daily and nothing yet with low enough mileage

I have. Drove the 2.0TDi. It's nice, has power but u enjoy my manual. Maybe when I hit 30 I will consider the s-tronic. :)
Almost killed the salesman when my left foot instinctively started looking for the clutch and only got hold of one very powerful brake. :D
It probably takes some getting used to. I would have to borrow one for a week first and see whether I can get used to it...

Maybe look for an A4 Avant? It looks pretty much the same as the A4 Sportsback :

Its still a 'station wagon' to me. Unfortunately I'm a very picky person. If I can't get exactly what I want, I won't take it. TBH I would rather take a golf 5 TDi before I buy a station wagon. I have no real need to sell my car, except for the fact that I have this burning desire for an A3. Since I travel quite a lot, the increase in monthly payments will be cancelled out by the economy of a diesel.
I'm probably just being full o' shiz, but don't really want to settle for anything else. If I can get a good deal I might even consider the S-tronic before I go with a station wagon...

:erm:... Not sure I understand but the A3 Sportsback is very much a stantion wagon, I mean look at it compared to the A4... looks very similar. I'm no VW fan but in that case I would also rather have a Golf TDi.

Although I see what you are saying, but to me the A3 look more sporty. "Windgat" is probably a better description. If I go with the G5 I would have to wait another 3 years to drive my overrated dream car... Then I would rather hold on to my Fiesta for a few more months. Not a big VW fan either..

ALso, VW only comes with a 3 year warranty. Thus a 2009 model will expire somewhere in this year. With an A3 I will at least have a 5 year warranty and maintenance plan. I need peace of mind, especially since this will be the first second hand car I buy...

If I may ask how do you get to 5 year warrant / maintenance plan unless its out of the box?

Good point, a longer warranty and maintenance plan definitely should be one of your top priorities when you look at secondhand cars. I know you said you're not a big fan of the Golf TDi but what about the competition : http://search.autotrader.co.za/www/cars_advert?id=201111187513786 ?

I have seen them on the roads, damn sexy car for one, not sure if they come in a 5 door and what the consumption etc is compared to Audi (will do some research, but it will purely be for entertainment purposes. ;-) )
But it still doen not give the same appeal as the A3 (to me personally)

In that case you should not settle for anything but the A3 sportback. Its one thing to make up your mind, but if your heart is made up then the choice has been made. Hope you find one.

It is transferable to the next owner. Hence why i want at least 2009 model, with less than 30000km on the clocks

If you get a 09 model then you only have +- 3 years left / 60 000.

Still nothing wrong with that. I am also looking for something similar.

Thanks man! I think the heart has chosen... now just for the universe to provide one

Probably not, but I prefer not to drive a car out of its warranty/maintenance. Mom in law had to spend 15K to replace the crankshaft in her Hyundai Atos recently... imagine what it will be in an Audi. Since I'm looking for a turbo model, I will not risk it. Those things are expensive to replace...
