New Police to tackle street racing

I heard on the radio this morning that the new traffic police, or whatever they want to call themselves, will be tackling mainly street racing. The reason being that the cars are modified, and in their own words, "NOT ROAD WORTHY". Honestly guys, how many road worthy taxis do we have driving along our highways. How many road worthy trucks and busses are driving on our highways. How many pedestrians are walking along and across our highways. And they want to shut down the guys that spent thousands of Rands to upgrade their vehicle at reputable dealers? I do not understand the logic...

A taxi that is falling apart will be allowed to drive, carrying 10s of people in one go. How many times (daily lately) do you read of another taxi that rolled, 7 killed, another taxi collided head on 13 injured 2 killed, etc, etc..... But o no, they go after the minority. Don't get me wrong, I am not defending street racing, but why focus on something that is overshadowed by something much bigger and deadlier, being the illegal taxis on our roads. Remove them from the roads and you will already see a drastic decline in road accidents and road rage.

Come on guys, do something good for a change.....

Badly run cops will always be reactive and never proactive. Tards.
 
I honestly can't see why they are bothering with doing this for STREET RACING when TAXI's are WAY MORE of a problem.
 
The way I see it is this. The taxi industry is, and has been out of control for a long time. Due to the old and new regimes lack of action to regulate the taxi industry, the monster has now grown to such a size that very little can be done about it, without stepping on some very influential toes. The taxi industry was (and still is) a convenient excuse for the Gov not to upgrade the public transport sector to give all South African's access to "affordable" and safe transport. So they let it ride, now it has turned into a run-away train.

The street racing scene is still in the infant stage compared to the taxi industry. Sure it has been going on for some time, but it is in many ways still very disorganised and small in relation to what it could be. Nip it in the bud as soon as possible, and stop it from spreading and growing to unmanageable proportions. For the taxi industry it is probably too late, but not for the street racing scene. It makes sense to go after street racers with everything they have, at least it is one threat on our roads they could still contain to some degree.
 
3 people die and now there's this whole push to tackle street racing (not that it shouldn't be tackled of course). How many people die due to taxis every year, and nothing is being done about that?

Taxi's do get alot of attention from the metro cops though, perhaps they can do alot more, but most of the road blocks i've been through in the past 6 months have had mostly taxi's stopped

I'd be a lot more comfortable if it was a regulated industry where there will at least be some sort accountability. This BS of independent taxi associations whose drivers get away scott free with reckless driving must stop.

That's exactly where the issue is coming in. They stop them and probably notice all the mistakes on the vehicle. But they still let the bugger carry on for a R50 in the back pocket. They should wake up and just think. Their child or wife could be sitting in that taxi the next time the wheel comes off and the thing goes into the nearest tree. Or even worse, into the poor family driving in the opposite direction. Or these fools driving on th wrong side of the road in peek traffic. I just cannot see why they don't rather spend more time and money in removing these pieces of **** off our roads. And again, please, I am not defending street racing..... Just cannot see how tackling the wrong area will make any difference...
 
Street racing usually happens late at night on deserted roads and usually kills the drivers, passengers and drunk bystanders that are all well aware of the risks involved. Taxis on the other hand drive in peal traffic and usually kills innocent passengers and roads users/cyclists/motorcyclist/pedestrians.

They should rather focus on taxis.
 
You know there is a problem... when crime can't be dealt with by the normal police, but each problem needs it's own little specialised police unit. :rolleyes:

Why are we even paying our taxes for the normal police? How much extra is all this other junk going to cost?
 
I don't want to defend taxis, but they are a big part of most people's lives. Instead of removing them from the road, maybe take that money and fix them. They will always drive like idiots, even if you take the taxi away, which they are driving now, they will just get another one and still drive like an idiot. At least, if they fix it, it will be safer for the passengers.

Pray tell me what will happen should you need to take your wife/kids to hospital late at night and some "afrikaans boks" (with his souped-up car) decide to have a bit of a frolicsome tumble with you?


They rather should keep street racing off the streets.

Good point, guess I should have taken the ambulance instead then although at that point in time an ambulance would probably be my only hope :o

Yes. If the metro cops camp on the N1/N4 interchange in the morning they basically only pull taxis. The rest of the traffic consists of harmless yuppies anyway.
