Right now, as you read this, there are five or six million shipping containers on enormous cargo ships sailing across the world’s oceans. And about every hour, on average, one is falling overboard never to be seen again. It’s estimated that 10,000 of these large containers are lost at sea each year, and our understanding of what happens to them afterwards is scant at best.

No, that's the Mexicans and the Cubans.
 
We been lucky so far, never lost a shipment, but we did have one that got waterlogged and all the machines rusted.

Actually, no... they didn't. They said we could not provide any evidence that the machines were not rusted before they left China. :mad:
Moral of the story, get photos of any cargo if you can before it leaves the source.
We had to share the loss with the Logistics company. :(
One guy lost his job at that company over it.
 
Maybe I should consider taking up fishing might actually be profitable.
 
That is a huge number! I recall a few yachts being lost to submerged containers which float just below the surface & hard to see when there is no swell. The keels can be ripped clean off & the yacht capsizes immediately.
