Stiffie Drive

Hi,

My stiffie drive doesn't want to read any of my stiffies. I put new ones, old ones and it keeps on saying it cannot be formatted (Yes I checked that it wasn't write protected).

Could my stiffie drive be f***ked or did I maybe put it in wrong and the stiffie is not going in right (ok that doesn't sound good):p

I am trying to reload my pc and last night I even downloaded the win98 startup disk and wrote it to disk, but it still reads "invalid disk"
 
We've got 14 new machines here [less than 2 months old] - the stiffy drive on 1 of them still works. Mecer is getting tired of replacing them for us as well.
They're crap these days.
 
is the light on the stiffie drive saying on during bootup? Check that the data cable was plugged in the correct way when your PC was rebuilt during your power supply fiasco :D

After that fiasco I am too scared to touch the computer, much less open er up again. I was a nervous wreck just putting the sides on again.:eek:

Power the PC down, UNPLUG the power cable. Open her up and unplug the data cable from the back of the stiffie, turn 180 degrees and plug back in.

Problem solved! :D

Remember to put the cover back on and THIS is when you plug the power back in!
 
The catch is that if that was the problem, then windows would not have picked up the stiffy drive in the first place.
Remember she says it will not format. So it is being picked up.

I think I am a failure this year at being a PC geek.:eek:

Another stupid question, If I now have a 300W PSU would my PC run faster, cause it looks like it to me. Or maybe it's just because my pc is so corrupt at the office that it works better:p

Very true! Sorry Xenophon looks like the drive has gone to stiffie heaven :eek:

Well, I'll try some stuff tonight. I think I have a spare on, I hope so cause I don't feel like walking to the shop now. The only thing is if I have one at home it won't be black.

Might just use it to get into dos and then put the black one back.

but wait... brainwave - i don't need a black one cause my cover covers it.:p
 
Check that you don't have a metal sleeve stuck inside the drive. That happened to me. Had me going for awhile.

Use either bootable CD or flash drive
 
WTF ? Stiffies ? Windows 98 ? Um, we are in the year 2005 (nearly 2006), most modern PC's don't even come with Stiffy drives anymore. A machine running Win98 should be thrown out the window.

...where I will catch it, install Linux on it and use it again!!! :D
