How much money has govt wasted?

R1187 816 305.44 so far of taxpayers money.

The Democratic Alliance has created this table to monitor the ANC government's excessive expenditure. We have done this to show that, very often, the needs of the ANC elite are put before the needs of ordinary South Africans.

We will update and supplement this table on an ongoing basis and provide a running total at the bottom.

CURRENT TOTAL: Approximately: R1187 816 305.44

What the money could buy:

•An RDP House costs approximately: R54 000
•A teacher's annual salary: R129 000

Thus, R1187 816 305.44 MILLION could buy:

•21 996 new RDP houses or
•Fund 9 207 teachers for a year

THE WASTEFUL EXPENDITURE MONITOR appears here: http://www.moneyweb.co.za/mw/view/mw/en/page295025?oid=513926&sn=2009+Detail

:wtf::sick::(:cry: FFS how much longer is this going to go on???

Until the taxpayers are no more. (all of them , not leaving, broke.) Then for about a year more till the reserve bank prints more money.

this figure obviously not taking into account the arms deal, the gautrain, etc .... so this is really only looking at department expenditure and not the really big money wasters .... but this is still an eye opener ... just shows how much money can be saved by some budget cuts ... any send this to pravin and SARS yet??

These figures pale in comparison to Helen's botox costs. :D

When they do the update they should do an infographic, that's what is in at the moment.

Someone should run an ad campaign on telly, showing our citizens in various areas that could've benefited from that wasted cash: better schools, healthcare, agriculture, industry and infrastructure equals more jobs and a better society. Each ad should end with big red letters pleading: STOP BEING CORRUPT
:(

Is not really corruption though (mostly) it's extremely poor mismanagement of budgets. If you get an extremely good car allowance in your job even though you don't travel for work, is that corruption?

*Waitin for the "ANC faithful" to try and defend this with some or other "but the DA this and that" lame argument*

Clearly evidence our welfare state is working

or if we all start boycotting our tax payments but that would need big business to get involved as well and I don't see that happening

If you waste your allotted budget on unnecessarily-luxurious vehicles then yes. If you blow hundreds of thousands staying in 5-star hotels along with your sangoma/drinking-buddy, just because the ministerial handbook can be reinterpreted to suit you, then it's corruption. If you take your friends and family along on 1st-class flights when on govt business, then it's corruption. The individuals who are indulging themselves on tax money are not poorly mismanaging their budgets, they're stealing from the people who're entrusting them with improving the country.

"an extremely good car allowance" is a short-sighted and piss-poor excuse for wasting the tax-payer's money.
