iBurst strength in Weltevreden park

Hi Guys,

After countless frustrations with Telkom again, I cancelled my account. I'd rather stay without the internet than pay them a cent more!!!! :mad:

Im staying in Rooitou avenue in Weltevreden park and was wondering what the strenght of the iBurst signal is like and are there serious issues that I need to keep in mind? Anyone's comments are appreciated. Alternatives are also welcome, though it sounds like iBurst might be the best of the lot.

Signal is excellent there. The only problem you might have is tower hopping (jumps between roodepoort, northcliff etc) continuously which will degrade your service. This is easily fixed by finding your "sweet spot" (use uTraceStar or IConnect). Worst case scenario, you'll need a directional aerial to eliminate a tower.

thank you for your replies. I found a posting on how to measure iBurst speed etc, so Im going to borrow a friends unit first before I make the leap.

I Stay 2 streets up from you. Was pretty crappy untill Rand park tower was powered up. Only connect to the Northcliff tower once in a blue moon. Now works like a dream! Like Glipse said: its all about the sweet spot. Get it right and you better bolt your pc to the floor, things get so fast. Ave signal is always in the -79 area. Have a look see:

I burst like any other service provider (internet) is just as bad, however their technical support is quite crude up but they outsource signal problems to some useless technicians who provide you with useless replies such as buying panel aerials (flat panel aerials) they just don't work and are a waste of money, I am struggling with a problem now in my area but I will find a solution because I am now sick and tired of Iburst signal detecting technicians ...they are useless.......I will maintain my account with them but I will solve my problem.
The desktop modem with the 2 aerials on its own is not to bad a little slow on weather changes but that's WBS (wide band spectrometer) nothing you can do.
 
Glipsie maybe I should try your suggestion ....I am in Glenvista Johannesburg south my signal is so poor that I burst cant solve the problem what type of outside directional aerial would I use ....suggestion........and how would I find the sweet spot every time I get signal from different towers but Pretoria is the worst.However I am very close to the tower in South Hills I cant pick up its signal, they have installed 2 flat panel aerials ...even worst

When I had my iburst my reception wasnt bad but it improved with this http://www.poyntingcommercial.com/index.php?q=catalogue|productinfo,19,iBurst-Omni-Antenna. Maybe it will help in your situation.
