Anon, by e-mail: With regards to the Julius Malema "Shoot the Boer" saga, it is tragic that so many genuinely believe such conduct is intolerable. It is obscene that there is even debate about it, let alone a court case.

What this proves is that the brutalising effects of apartheid are still with us. Black folk are acting out a terrible unresolved grievance. As William Faulkner stated: "The past is never dead. It's not even the past".

So what to do?

Let us cast our minds back to that day in 1995, when Nelson Mandela donned the Springbok jersey and brought a nation together, led by 30000 tearfully happy "Boers" in the stands. This was a simple act on his part. For a long while we started getting there as a nation.

Think also of the Currie Cup final, settled by almost exclusively white rugby teams in Soweto, an almost exclusively black suburb. We, the silent majority, felt a moment of quiet exaltation. It was so good. The interactive radio stations were bombarded with expressions of simple joy, mouthed by so many ordinary black folk.

It is obvious, blindingly obvious, that another simple thing is outstanding.

White people have simply never said "sorry". Sorry not for the evil system of apartheid, but for how they treated black folk as people - with unkindness, cruelty and contempt at every turn.

I fully agree with copa on this one.

My family treated everyone the same, they were our friends etc, and still bloody well are.

Its only the small minded bigoted little idiots who have to think in terms of race, the majority of us have moved on from that I think.
 
I'm not sure how this 'sorry' is actually supposed to happen. At the TRC there were many of the perpetrators that said sorry? Must I say sorry for voting yes the first time I could vote?

Like Afriforum's brigade, if they just accepted that the song was part of the ANC's history it wouldn't have a tenth of the attention it's got now.
 
Is this statement from a black person or from a person suffering from white guilty? My money is on white guilt.

First - I cant apologise for something I benefitted from but did not participate in. By the time I was old enough to vote, it was 2003, way too late for me to do anything about apartheid. I benefitted from it, yes, but I also benefitted from being born awesome. Should I apologise for that too? Should models apologize for being born good looking?

Second - apologies from us whiteys wont help those in the townships campaigning for service delivery. They wont bring back Mr Tatane.
 
None of us have any issues that that stupid song is part of the ANC's history, but whats being fought now is that it should NOT be sung anymore.... its not acceptable
 
I'm sorry, that the anc are petty little hypocrites who would abuse their own legacy, and damage the concept of multi culturalism, and embarass africans globally.

I'm sorry. Sorry that those who should have apologised haven't and that those who do not need to apologise are being blamed for it.

There was a discussion on 702 this morning about white people phoning in and being embarrassed when some white person says something stupid and the same for black people. Why should people feel embarrassed if someone else is corrupt, its not me. Like a black caller said his heart sinks when ever a black politician is accused of corruption and is happy when its a white person, and its the other way around with whites. I never knew that you were supposed to be embarrassed for what someone else of your race does. I think people have their heads screwed on wrong.

I always just think fsking politicians.
