In a victory for potential firearm owners, police will have four months to respond to applications for competency certificates.

According to a Pretoria High Court ruling, the police have agreed that these applications be considered within four months of their lodging.

The agreement follows an application brought by the South African Intruder Detection Association, several security companies and about 4 500 individual security officers

Let hope things start moving quicker now but am not holding my breath.
 
I have been waiting for 2 years, so what happens if they don't process it in 4 months?

I will give feedback in 4 months from this post.
 
Good news. However
According to Colonel Elias Mahlabane of the Central Firearms Register, the criticism levelled against it could only have been valid before November last year as it had streamlined the whole process. He said there was now only a backlog of 700 000 applications to be processed and they hoped to have all these done by the end of July this year.

Hood said, however, he was sceptical about this because if it had taken five months to consider 200 000 applications, it would take between 15 and 20 months to get through the rest of the backlog

Doesn't mean they'll get it done. All depts. have nice targets that are never met, with no consequences.

How long have you been waiting?
 
I was out of the country when the Police phoned me, they left a message and when I returned the call I was told that the file is no longer with them. Apparently this can only mean that it has been processed and sent forward, if something was wrong it should have taken considerably longer. Quite funny how they are now rushing through everything. One of my character witnesses has since emigrated, yet they managed to approve it without him. The person I spoke with said that it will take atleast another here.
