Article: Election results will shock many: Zille

The results of the May 18 municipal election will shock the ruling party out of its complacency, Democratic Alliance leader Hellen Zille said on Thursday.

"I believe the results of this election are going to surprise many people," she said at Seshego near Polokwane in Limpopo.
 
It won't surprise me. Most of the tools will still vote ANC, and we'll have to put up with another 5 years of service delivery toy-toying and strikes.

Hope I'm wrong though.
 
Look at what happened in Zim. Bob couldn't handle his people not loving him exclusively so he started torturing voters so they would vote for him. This is Africa .. where normal values doesn't count for much.
 
At least it seems to be going in the right direction....DA, ANC, black, white, who cares, as long as people just vote based on performance instead of loyalty or fear. It does seem like a growing amount of black people are also now realizing that you dont vote based on historical alliances or whatever, but on performance. Maybe one day the poor majority who suffers the most under the ANC will stop toy-toying and just give their votes to someone who deserves it. Then things will get very interesting.

I think the difference between us and Zim is that they had a person who 'free`d' them, at least the ANC is so busy fighting for each individuals power that no-one has gathered enough support to cause a Zim situation. Hopefully :) That and possibly the fact that if things do go south quickly then the rich blacks also have everything to lose. All those billions of rands stolen from the people will then be worth nothing.
 
If I were Zille I would be very worried. The ANC will just use state resources and corruption to win the election.
NIA, SASS, MI etc etc. They will NEVER give up power and are probably tapping her phones along with anyone else perceived to be a threat to taking over.
 
What will shock us more is that the uneducated masses will still vote for the ANC despite how much corruption, nepotism, crime and wastage they are guilty of.

The history of the dark continent is being played out before our eyes, South Africa is just about twenty years late to the party.

No, it's more a case of voters false loyalty where the majority of the brainwashed idiots, even those nearly or mostly "converted", will just put their thumb-print and X where it looks like an comrades flag like eANC. Zille is going to be the shocked one, not understanding the level of stupidity that still remains.
 
I have a bit of inside information on this front, but probably obvious to most, the DA have chosen candidates for the upcoming election with a good work ethic, people who have a track record in their communities.

I think their is a bit of DA in every ANC stalwart. They might favour the ANC at election time who have overall control of the country, but choose to live in areas like the Western Cape because they are not stupid to the situation in our country.

Without a good opposition the long term result will be corruption, the facts speak for themselves.

This is local elections, here the ANC has continuously not shown the same interest in them as national ones. Western Cape is a prime example, the ANC has the most to gain by winning many municipalities but we have yet to see any major canvassing - election posters have been limited to their traditional strongholds, but many of those have already fallen to the opposition.

ANC voters are also loath to vote and thats what the opposition needs.

Don't forget the ANC is fragile in wards it no longer controls and this has resulted in disgruntled ANC candidates standing as independents - it just dilutes the ANCs vote and control. With floor crossing no longer allowed, an independent councillor who may originate from a previous party has no incentive to agree with them anymore.

Also where the opposition will gain the most ground is in the proportional vote as many of the ANC voters will stay away.
