Oh, I notified @lantic yesterday about leaving them and I'm taking 4 ADSL accounts as well as 3 domains hosted with them @ R149 each away from them.

They charge R100 per gig with their usage based model, other ISP's charge less. Their IS uncapped account is R1539 (incl Vat) a month, there are also cheaper alternatives available than that.

People, all I can say is @lantic has become greedy and to stay away from them (and their buddy DataPro). They were once great, but now....

Stay away from @lantic!!!
 
When they can split international and local bandwidth and provide good local latency, then we're cooking.

Problem is - in order to split the costs of local and international, tekom has to get involved...um...um...um..what do you mean IS can do it already ? What do you mean IS are NOT doing it :mad:?
 
This is oh so fricken 3rd world it is CRAZY!!!! FFS when will we start moving forward???? Oh wait, when true competition hits the market...

Supersunbird - I agree 100% with you. Since the DataPro takeover they suck big time. In the past I have recommended @lantic for their good prices, but not anymore.

In my own capacity I will prevent them signing up 10 new users per year. Apart from the takeover money received the founder of @lantic must really be peeved for all the hard worked that ended like this.

I imagine this is just about the price/GigaByte paid in other countries.
 
Franna, I also always refered clients to @lantic, but now I will only refer Dailup users to them, since their speed and prices are much better than the little satan (aka M-Web, large satan being Telkom)

Worse thing is, I stayed with them in November (and now with the one month notice thing have to endure December), trying to help them to make a openweb style IS account, like the 5 gig int and 25 gig local one for say about R350, BUT NO, the only IS thing they came out with was this EXPENSIVE uncapped nonsense.

BTW, @lantic hardcapped my account at exactly 3GB on November 25th.

My father-in-law is on a very basic ADSL package in Germany - it includes 1 GB each month and each extra MB is 1.2 euro cent (about 10 za cents)...but this is included in the line rental fee of EUR 10 (ZAR 80) for 1 Mbps DSL. If you want unlimited DSL it's EUR 5 / month (plus EUR 17 for 1 Mpbs or EUR 20 for 2 Mpbs DSL "line rental").
 
To qualify users must have either the or Host@300 (R19) with @tlantic and the contract term is 1 month.

I have signed up for the Host@300 (R19) package as a back-up account - they have send me a contract for the CasualHost3 (R35) and it is a 3 month contract term or you pay penalties!
 
all these accounts that these ISP's (exception to 1 or 2 ISP's) are coming up with, are almost excatly the same, just package differantly... its all a load of bollocks
 
Wow, wonderful. So glad to see @lantic climbing onto the rip-off wagon as well. Now can we see a decent ISP's offering?
 
Yes Web Africa should have had a mention. The major feature they have is that unused pre-paid traffic caries over to the next month. It is also great that you can add pre-paid gigs to your normal account as well. So if you 3gig runs out you can buy another gig and be going again in minutes. (and still cary over the unused portion of that extra gig if you don't use it all up.)

Yup sad, only in SA.
We have a product launched at 512 and it goes backwards to 384 to 192, along with the bandwidth billing system, no cap, capped, per gig, per meg while the rest of the world moves in the other direction.
This is how our governments managed liberalisation (protection of Telkom) works. They have to keep their cash cow's belly full and this is how they are doing it.

It doesnt matter what Thabo says, as clearly nobody seems to be listening, or at least not very attentively.
He could run down the road butt naked screaming it from the top of his lungs and nobody would even raise an eyebrow, least of all the Minister and her minions.
Who's running this show really?

Someone should be fired for allowing this to happen.
