S.African watchdog to license Telkom phone rival Friday

Well - seems like Telkom is not worried. Their share price increased by 1.2% (155 points) so far today.

Maybe they know something we do not. Maybe Telkom can delay the process even further by using Optis Telecoms.
 
Regarding which year.

The next time the 9th falls on a Friday is 2011. Lets hold thumbs that this is not the case, but rather 2005.
 
Yea, two operators to do the nasty to us. I'll sleep better at night knowing our watchdog has our back.

Does friday mean that we'll learn the real name of the SNO?
 
I really dont like how everyone is treating ICASA recently. That have done a lot in the last year. Give them a break and stop being so impatient

They've done maybe 10% of what they should have done during the past year.

But this is much more than they did the previous years!

I don't think people are judging them based on what they have done but instead on what they haven't done. All they have done so far is talk lots.
 
Intresting, now just have to wait for my contract to be finished or cancelled whichever comes 1st. Hope that Drafts comes through......................;)
 
I agree with JStrike to a certain extent. Don't be fooled into thinking ICASA goes out of their way to make life easy for Telkom. The relationship between the two bodies is definitely not amicable. Icasa is massively underfunded and needs a heck of a lot more money to do what they are supposed to be doing properly.
 
@JStrike: The lack of faith in ICASA comes from them saying things like the ADSL draft regulations would be out in 'x' weeks, and then months later we're still waiting for it - while in the meantime Telkom comes out with their Nov 1 crap. Of which ICASA is inundated with complaints about the Nov 1st billing change by Telkom, and they DO absolutely NOTHING about it. They were made aware of the situation but when push came to shove they did not do anything about stopping it, and they were suppose to be the one protecting us. Then comes the fraud case from ICASA's CEO (was that last week?!).

I had a lot of faith in ICASA when they came out with their ADSL findings report, but when they failed to deliver on time and not show any muscle in Telkom's Nov 1st per GB billing story, that is where I lost faith in them. I find they have fallen into the same category as guavamint with empty promises and doing nothing about it.

PS: But then again, it's maybe like Debbie2 has stated, that they're underfunded and have no actual power to act independantly!
