ASA rules against Sentech’s MyWireless Flexi Ad

Very good news. Has there been any follow-up on the complaints that were made against Telkom for their absurd `download life' ad (The one where an entire family is using their super dooper ADSL line --- and consuming their 3GB in about, oh, 12 hours).

2.5 months after the ad was up the complaint was resolved........... is the ad even still running or has it been relegated to the archives already?

With timeframes in months there is no real point complaining to ASA, they simply take so long that lots of ads are no doubt already off the air by the time the ruling comes out.

Hey, they're quicker than ICASA . . .
Yah well when you're busy shutting down wireless isp's offering affordable access then I'm sure time would come at a premium.

Whose next? Telkom with all their false advertising - can have a field day with this one. :-)

As always, the damage is done.

the ASA should be empowered to prevent a company whose ads have been withdrawn at some stage, from flighting any new ads without their (ASA) pre-approval.

Ad Lies

Well, the latest bit of dishonesty can be seen in the latest, wait for it..... Telkom ad. The one with the chappie climbing into the rocket with the blurb "telkom ADSL, the fastest ADSL around" (not verbatum, sorry).

Patent lies when they clearly offer a product with speeds well below international norms.

But then Joe Public is generally ignorant about this and will continue to be lied to by the Telkom monopoly.

We need to educate joe public

How many people would be willing to donate R10 to myadsl specifically for ad campaigns? RPM? How about we have voluntary regular monthly commitment from myadsl readers specifically for ads in the media... What do ads cost in the Sunday Times, etc.?

Good idea?!

Had similar ideas about this. Specifically indicating what other countries are charging for ADSL/broadband (without getting into trouble with ASA).
Knowledge is power and imagine an angry mob knocking on govt/Melkom's door.... :D
