I got given the task to provide MIS drilling down from municipal district to postal code.
I have 12500 postal codes to map.
I cannot find any free link to South African municipalities being linked to Post Office postal codes.
Even the demarcation boards do not have this info.

It is easy when it comes to Joburg+ Pretoria but it gets too difficult when it comes to the rural district muncipalities to figure out the mapping.
Surely with the elections coming up there must be some orgazination that has this information online.

I also have the GPS coordinates for each postal code so does anyone know of GIS software that can help me.

I've seen and worked with one of these before, but I have NO clue what it was called or where it was gotten from. It wasn't a drawn out map, but it had each postal code and exactly what are that covered.

Have you tried calling SAPO? I think it was from them.

I don't think there is any correlation between your postal code and voting district and if it was online, pretty sure its not in the public domain.

Voting Wards are not based on postal codes. Also you get PO Box Postal codes as well for the same postal district.

Thanks I tried that GIS site and it you seem to be able to get it in a map format. Will have to download the map software and see if it coordinates are clearly marked so it might assist me if I don't get right.

I tried google untill I was blue in the face. Also tried SAPO.

I got the postal codes here

Gepostcodes has exactly what I want and I can view a sample and it contains the municipality with district code as well as postal code however the database will cost 30 Euros. :(

This info should be free!

Actually Postal Codes have nothing to do with Municipalities so the harvesting of such information is not required to be free. You could however write a web scrapper to harvest this information from the web but then you would have to verify it - is is R350 that much? I guess you get paid more than that in the week or three it would take you to do this yourself.

Well given this will be a software application that I have to support and postal codes and especially municpalities regularly change I would have to buy the database every so often to get the updated version.
