Rising petrol price vs Vehicle Sales

Will the high petrol price put a brake on Vehicle Sales?

Although vehicle sales are on an upward trend, the recent fuel price hikes could affect the industry.

True
On the contrary though, new cars are more fuel efficient...

Who knows. Prev. though, people used to change their cars every 2 years or so.
To me and people around me, people are waiting now to change every 4-5 years.
So why still are the vehicle sale figues going up.

Because more people have money to buy cars and lots of people need to replace their stolen cars...
 
Also, there is a slowly emerging new middle class. Small as it is, it is there and happening.
 
High fuel prices seems to have the opposite effect with some people when it comes to driving styles , they tend to drive even faster

hasnt been announced yet, i hope it stays unchanged. Dont see it going down.
 
With the petrol prices as they are I expect the Reserve Bank to keep the prime rate as it is for the forseeable future, or even drop it slightly should petrol prices go even higher. This will help the consumer a bit. It should also keep the vehicle market from collapsing.
My 2c.
 
Here in Gauteng we are all ready running out of road for all the vehicles we have up here so at least it's saving us the extra traffic jam if sales slow down a bit.
