Telkom press release:

"Telkom would like to congratulate ICASA and the SNO Shareholders on completing the SNO licensing process and achieving this important milestone.

Telkom welcomes further competition from the SNO in what is already a vibrant and highly competitive communications market. We believe increased competition is beneficial to the economy of South Africa."

Its merely a formality, as telkom has plans to undermine everything the SNO wishes to accomplish...

Telkom is allready sleeping in the same bed as the SNO and Telkom isnt worried...

What the hell are they smoking? If they think this is a very competitive market, when they are the only player, what the hell will they think when VAN's can self provide, and the SNO is in full swing??

The mind boggles at the crap that comes out in these Telkom 'press releases' !

Translation: Thanks for giving us a 5 + 3 = 8 year monopoly extension ZA ... those extra tens of billions will sure come in handy as we worm our way into other market sectors! Our squads of attack lawyers and their DOC/ICASA moles are standing by to stall the SNO's operational rollout at every possible oppertunity.

What a crock! If it was a highly competitive market, prices wouldn't be so bloody exhorbitant as they are! PR spin doctors airing more garbage to "try" and promote the rapidly destructing TELKOM image.

Never thought I'd agree with them. Yep, open the market! Local Loop unbundling, ISPs should be able to self provide, SAT cables national assets, etc, allow more operators in, and then hear Telkom cheer. :D
