World's highest resolution 10.1-inch tablet PC display to be unveiled by Samsung

It looks as though we have some fun times ahead driven by fierce competition.

Pity my eyes are dimming though. I'll need a new pair of specs to appreciate this one.

Forgive me if I am wrong , but why is it Samsung can produce a 10" tablet with a resolution greater than 1080p yet they cannot do the same for their monitors and TVs'? Not only should they be more than able to this in their TV's, but they should be able to do it more cheaply than in a 10" screen because the size of each pixel would be bigger. Yet most of their monitors stop at 1080p. What good is a 10" screen with such a high resolution, most people would not be able to tell the difference.

Go look at an iPhone 4. If you have good eyesight, you'll tell the difference. I see this is a Pentile RGBW configuration. Interesting.

That's a pretty impressive resolution. I wonder whether we'll appreciate it fully on such a small tablet

Perhaps I should have clarified...I meant the difference between full HD and 2560x1600. At least, not on a display of this size. Bring on HD TV's with this high resolution, or 30" monitors for pete's sake. I am so tired of seeing bigger monitors end at full HD.

amazing screen quality and pixel density! i cud jus about see pixels on an iphone3g but only wid a microsope can it be seen on iphone 4! it means less iball strain

The reason why they are making these screens with such a high res is because of the view distance. The closer you are to the screen, the higher the res needs to be. If you sat 30 cm from your 50" tv then yes 2560x1600 would make sense, but often people sit at least 2-3m from the tv. Most of the time you can't really tell much difference between 1080p and 720p... so whats the point of a higher res then?

To be honest, I actually looked at the Galaxy Tab 7", and it's pixel density is pretty much already as high as I'd ever need. That's a gorgeous screen.

However, I won't complain with 2560x1600 on a 10"! If the iPad doubles it's resolution it will be 2048x1536, nice.

Great specs but its more of an output thing. Presentations, HD-TV'S and what not.

So I guese it would be called the "Samsung - Universe" and if it seamlesly delivers resolutions like that it deserves that name.

Peace "B"

This means that the iPad 3 should have Retina display if Apple want to compete:) I think that will make it the best iPad ever released!

What is even more impressive than the higher resolution is the folding screen concept that Samsung has come up with.
Can't wait to see what they do with it, cellphones or tablets or both.

samsung electronics are always of good quality, but their phones just give up after the two year run

I love that them advances xD
I can't how quickly technology is getting ahead!

Firstly, I'd just like to point out that this screen has a 16:10:love: aspect ratio. Just like all the best screens. Suck on that 16:9 fanbois.:p

You do know that there are several 2560x1600 30" monitors available right now.

The reason why they are making these screens with such a high res is because of the view distance. The closer you are to the screen, the higher the res needs to be. And if you sit 30cm from your 50" TV, you'll get a sore neck from continuously swivelling your head. I don't see much point in these super high res screens (including anything more than 1080p for TVs) outside of specialist applications; the text is too small and if you sit close enough to read the text you can't see the whole thing. So you make the text bigger... but then why not just use a lower pixel density? Like I said, specialist applications.
