Netgear Router DG834G v4 - Power light flashing?

I've read the manual and googled, but found very little. I hope someone here can help!

I have a Netgear DG834G v4 router at home. It has worked fine for years. I was away for a couple of weeks, and when I restarted it today the power light flashes green (on for ten seconds), the internet light blinks on and off after 7 seconds, and then both start again. It did this once before and settled down after a while, but not today.

I've switched it on and off, and used the Reset button at the back. The closest thing I've found on the internet suggests that it might be the power supply.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Have you tried using a different wall power pack or are you referring to the internal supply components?

I meant the external (wall power) supply. Thinking of going in to a friendly local shop and asking if they have a wall power pack I can plug it in to.

Don't buy a new one until you are sure. Those wall power packs either work correctly or blow and don't output any voltage. They normally contain a transformer which wouldn't usually cause intermittent problems. If the lights on your router come on then it would most likely be working correctly. Have you tried to test the voltage output from the wall unit using a multimeter? It may be a bit higher than 12V without any load connected - this is normal. Ellies sell a 1A unit with different voltage/polarity settings and DC connectors which should be available from most Shoprite, Game stores etc. Esquire had several on special last week for ~R50. Many hardwares also sell similar units but you need to be very sure that this is faulty before you replace it. It sounds more like a problem with the router itself.

Just make sure that the new unit has the same polarity, voltage and current rating as the old one.

Thanks guys. The shop said that it was probably dead, but I'm leaving it plugged in in case it decides to revive of it's own accord. I'm moving house in the next month or so, so not a train smash, but not something I want to invest in right now.

Plugged it in after I made my last post, and saw it had the same problem. Went and made supper, came back and the little b*gger was right as rain! I'll be leaving it on in future.
