Department of Communications fails to deliver on promise

The DoC makes promises that makes you optimistic and when the time comes to act the DoC just conveniently forgets about the promises made.

The colloquium was a waste of time.

This is what I was thinking when I read the article. Surely there must be something we can do to put pressure on the DOC.

Can we not demand an explanation why they have broken their promise? I'm tired of just accepting that things take time.
 
@rpm and cara: Good article. Why don't you try to get the article or a press release about the issue published by the main stream press eg Business Day etc? I think it's important at this particular junction to publisize the DOC's failure on their most recent promises.

Someone needs to remind the DOC **WHO** pays their salary.
 
Hi guys

The DoC is well aware of this article (and this site for that matter). I was in contact with them this morning and they will try to give us feedback later today regarding this issue. As IC said it is great to keep tabs on these promises…the telecoms companies and organizations must be aware that they are being watched. And we will remind them of their promises :D

We need to do some butt kicking here. Anyone have a mail addy for Rob Rose and the other journalists? Mail and Guardian also seem to like these kinds of stories.

It all sounded really good when Roy was so vocal on the issue, perhaps he was told to wind his neck in a bit.
 
I for one expected as much to come from the colloquium. The gov's track record does not speak of action, but rather of spin and parties. Why should they bother to actually put in the effort. Who's going to check on them? Who's going to repremand them? Only the voting public are in a position to make the gov (inlc DoC) move their behinds. Unfortunately the vast majority is either uninformed, blinded by propoganda, and/or too gullable and get caught hook, line and sinker by the constant spin coming from the gov offices.

I feel very negative about any changes in the near future, and in the ability of the DoC to effect such changes. I hope they prove me wrong...
 
good work guys ... it can only help to point out their failures ... they just keep providing us with more and more ammunition ..... now if only we can find that elusive 'gun' that can make this ammo work :D
 
"Department of Communications fails to deliver on promise" is hardly a catchy headline, whereas " Department of Communications delivers on promise" would make the front page of every paper. :)

Is that really such a good idea? If only 4% of users were using 50% of Telkom's ADSL allocated bandwidth, then 8% would use all of it.. *snigger*
 
I'm trying really hard to fake my surprise at the lack of action from the DoC, but honestly I expected nothing less.

Hope all the colloquium attendees filled their pockets with extra food because thats about all you're gonna get out of the DoC.

As Ivy's role model - Mary Antoinette - so famously said "Let them eat cake".
 
Do you really think the DoC keeps track of these promised dates, like "cmon guys we've only got 5 weeks left to implement this" somehow i just cant imagine it happening :( The DoC wouldnt know a deadline if it slapped them in the face!
