Colour banding on monitor

Hey guys,

My monitor seems to be on the blink (or maybe not) - please assist.

The color seems to be uneven and blotchy. Do you think this could be driver problem or would it be the monitor itself? Please check image below to see the bands and blotches. This should be smooth

no it's not .... (but it's the same effect) .... even the screen saver (background) looks similar

was referring to the darker red - which does appear to have some compression artifacts

Not sure what it was but started and restarted my PC again and seems to be fine - must be graphics card then
