Market for SEO agencies

I'm thinking of starting my own SEO agency, most probably partnering with web designers by paying them commission for referrals. Would be cool if there was someone who actually does this to talk to.

Make sure you really understand whats involved and can talk the talk properly to clients.

There is a LOT of mistrust of SEO since it's become the new flavour of the week recently and is easy to mislead people. Companies have been charged joke high prices and the SEO co's do nothing whatsoever for it.

Most web designers also only understand SEO around 50% properly - so that isn't always a great way to go. I know a lot of web dev's and designers at big agencies who actually know nothing at all about implementing proper SEO princiiples and campaigns.
 
Hmmm, well I reckon I could def get all the knowledge sorted. I was more wondering what the demand for a good seo agency is?

I don’t think so. People want comprehensive solutions. Perhaps marketing yourself as a digital agency that can handle all aspects of websites and interweb marketing
 
If you start a SEO business your best recommendation should be that your site will be top 5 in google sa for the keyword SEO. Then the business will come too you.

I don't intend to do any webdesign itself. I will be doing social media marketing as well, like facebook fanpage creation and management.

Dammit he's right!

OP: So, quick one. Let say I have a client that sells 20 different lines (espresso, italian roast, blue mountain, weiner, etc - beans!) of coffee. They sell the beans or grind it for you depending on your needs. Their real competition is M&B and Weissenhof and not the brand importers. No brands. So, would you be able to get them to pg 1 and even perhaps the top of the page when people search for "premium filter coffee in johannesburg"? Would you be able to keep them there? How much does such an exercise cost? This is an analogy, btw, not a real situation.
